Overview
The Alto TS308 features a whopping 1,000W power section driving an 8″ LF driver and 1.4″ Neodymium magnet HF driver.
The TS308 has multiple anchor points and a pole socket. As a floor monitor, the enclosure has angled sides for proper throw angle. There’s a 2 channel mixer but no EQ or dedicated floor monitor voicing available but the unit doesn’t tend to need this perhaps because of its smaller speaker.
This power and versatility comes in a compact and lightweight enclosure for maximum portability. The headroom and power are deceptively loud even for an 8″ speaker. As a floor wedge, the smaller speaker size lends itself to clearer monitoring which is essential to keeping stage volume down during gigs.
Despite the smaller 8″ LF driver (compared to 12″), the TS308 can put out surprising amount of low frequency sound. However instruments with too much low end (Keyboards/Drums) can cause the LF driver to become muddy and distort at loud volumes. For monitoring however, it is usually recommended to roll off the low frequencies at the mixer to keep stage levels uncluttered. Guitarists looking for an ‘FRFR’ (Full Range Flat Response) monitoring setup for use with amp modelling pedals will be interested to hear this is the same basic unit as the Headrush FRFR-108 from the same parent company ‘inMusic’ and they are quite suitable for this purpose.
It should be noted that there are reports of users who’ve experienced reliability issues with their speakers and they haven’t been very impressed with the support or help when they’ve contacted the manufacturer. The default warranty period is only 1 year so try to buy from a retailer who provides an extended warranty and support period if possible.
If you need a loud and clear stage monitor at a reasonable price-point, the Alto TS308 is tough to beat.
