Overview
The Howitzer is a 15-Watt solidstate amplifier in pedal format, with a speaker out that can connect to any 16 or 8 ohm speaker. It works well with popular 1×12 cabinets, connecting to it straight out of a pedalboard, albeit with limited projection/volume.
For its size, it comes with essential tone shaping and amp controls including volume, 3-band EQ and gain. The gain knob goes from clean to dirty overdrive, and behaves similar to classic tube amps. The EQ knobs can cut or emphasize frequencies, the way it does on a regular amp.
It even has a bright/normal switch, a feature that’s normally found on older amps. This lets you tweak the amp to match the type of guitar you are using.
And since this amp is meant to sit on a pedalboard, it comes with an important pedal friendly feature – effects loop send and return ports. This makes it easier to integrate into existing pedalboard setups.
For some reason, the pedal does not come with a power button, which can be a bit of an issue when setting up and breaking down your rig.
If you are looking for a practical and easy to use solidstate amp then definitely check out the Electro-Harmonix Howitzer Power Amp Pedal.
