Focusrite OctoPre MkII Dynamic Mic Preamp

Focusrite is well known for the quality and transparency of their solidstate mic preamps. The OctoPre MKII gives you eight of these sought after preamps in a compact rackmountable form factor. And since it has ADAT digital output, it can be used to expand the input capacity of compatible audio interfaces, while at the same time providing the same sound quality as found on Focusrite's other preamp devices. Controls on the front panel include gain knobs and switches for phantom power and pad. There's also a nifty LED metering display that makes monitoring each channel more convenient.

Pros

"Excellent" is one of the many positive words that reviewers use to describe the OctoPre MKII. Many report that it excelled both in sound quality and flexibility, while others are happy with its intuitive design. A good number of users attest to its sound quality, commending it for its above satisfactory performance when doing traditional vocal recording, and when miking instruments like acoustic guitars, violins and drum kits.

Cons

There aren't any notable repeating complaints, other than a few users who had the unit fail on them after a few years of use.

If you're looking to expand your mic input options and upgrade the quality of your recordings, then the Focusrite OctoPre MKII is a worthy investment.
