M-Audio MIDISPORT 4x4 Anniversary Edition USB Bus-Powered MIDI Interface

Gearank Recommendation

The MIDISPORT 4x4 Anniversary Edition appeared on the very first edition of our recommended list for MIDI Interfaces in April 2017 and it remained there until May 2018.

Overview

The M-Audio MIDISPORT 4x4 Anniversary Edition is the revamped version of the original MIDISPORT 4x4 released in celebration of M-Audio’s 20th anniversary.

It's 4 MIDI In/Out ports allows you to connect 4 MIDI input devices simultaneously and reduces the need for daisy chaining MIDI sound modules on the output side.

The convenience of having dedicated ports for multiple midi devices shouldn't be underestimated so it's worth considering if you have a few MIDI devices. It has a MIDI indicator for each port and is compact and lightweight for desktop and mobile use.

Verify MidiSport 4x4 features

I own a MidiSport 2x2 interface that I use as a Midi merge device in standalone mode (not connected to computer), using the USB port only for power the unit whit an USB power supply. In this way I can merge midi channels of both input A and B towards 2 midi devices connected to A e B outputs, having the two out ports the same merged midi contents. Now I need to implement other 2 inputs, so I think that MidiSport 4x4 could be the solution. But it arise a doubt. In the user manuals of the line M-Audio MidiSport the merge and thru function is expressely related only to the 2x2 not for the 4x4, that seems to work only as a Midi interface connected to computer, not in standalone mode for merge pourpose. My question is: does work M-Audio MidiSport 4x4 anniversary edition in standalone mode (without computer) as a midi merge device like the 2x2 does and if yes all the four outputs supply the identical midi program, merged from the engaged inputs or anything else happens?
Can anyone help me to clarify this doubt? Thank you
