Overview
Unlike many loop pedals which are mostly aimed at guitarists, the Ditto Mic Looper is designed for vocalists and players of acoustic instruments that are miked.
It’s as straightforward as the original Ditto, only this one features balanced XLR input and output ports for connectivity with microphones and PA systems.
This is a straightforward single effect pedal that is meant to do just one task, and that is to let you record, overdub and play your loops in realtime.
Unique to this pedal is TC Helicon’s intelligent mic gain control, which tweaks gain and dynamics relative to the input signal, be it singing or acoustic instruments. This is meant to help improve the overall resulting sound. The integrated mic preamp also comes with phantom power, for use with condenser mics.
Everything else works much like a regular looper, with two switches that let you trigger essential controls that include record, overdub, play, stop, undo and redo. Note that one switch is dedicated to stop, while the other lets you trigger different controls depending on how you step on the switch.
In addition to looping singing and vocal beatboxing, TC-Helicon also markets the Ditto Mic looper as a looper for acoustic musicians, allowing them to record and loop non-electric instruments via microphones.
This pedal is housed in a tank tough casing designed to survive regular gigs and travels.
One thing to note is that although it does come with a power supply included, you don’t have the option to run it on batteries.
If you’re looking for a way to sample and loop vocals and other miked sound sources, then the TC-Helicon Ditto Mic Looper is one of the most practical choices.
