Traynor DW10 Drum Amplifier

Gearank Recommendation

The DW10 appeared on our recommended list for Electronic Drum Amps / Drum Monitors from May 2021 until April 2022.

Traynor DW10 Overview

The Traynor DW10 is a drum amp made by Traynor Amplification, a Canadian brand that's manufactured locally in Pickering, Ontario.

Pete Traynor, the head designer of Traynor was a musician and amp repairman who teamed up with Jack Long, the co-founder of music store Long & Mcquade in the sixties to create Yorkville Sound, the company behind the line of amps.

The Traynor brand had been slowly phased out starting in 1976 after Pete left the company until it was reintroduced in the year 2000. In 2016, building on the success of their Small Block bass combos and Block keyboard amplifiers they launched this 200-watt amp specifically designed and tuned for the wide dynamic range and transient characteristics of electronic drum sets.

The DW-10 features a high power, low distortion 10" Woofer for the lows and a 1" Compression driver on a PA style horn for the high frequencies.

The routing and connections is where this amp gets interesting. This amp features 3 discrete stereo input channels sporting 2 1/4" inputs (Left/Mono and Right).

Channel 2 and 3 can be set to bypass the XLR DI outputs so you can use them for monitoring bass guitar, a metronome, click tracks and more without that audio going out into the house mixer or your audio interface. Also with these channels, the master EQ can be skipped with the push of a button. Additionally, channel 3 houses a 1/8" stereo input jack for use with an mp3 player, smartphone or other 1/8" source although it is not recommended to use the 1/4" and 1/8" inputs on channel 3 simultaneously.

All 3 channels feature individual LED clipping indicator lights along with one on the master control to let you know if you're about to distort on one channel or on the master bus.

Pair that with a solid plywood enclosure, a hole to be used with a speaker stand and a metal grille protecting the drivers makes this wedge-style drum amp a flexible and robust choice for stage, studio or rehearsal use.
