Yamaha Well Built Great Sound

These were purchased as an alternative to our BR15 speakers and they are perfect for small clubs. They are a tighter vocal sound than the 15s and when used with our SPDSX pad the low electronic bass notes still come through and aren't as woofy.

The perfect working mans speaker.

I picked up a couple of these to pair with my existing EMX312C powered mixer last year to use for my acoustic duet. We found ourself double booked with our sound crew for our five pice band & had to rely on what we had on hand. We were really surprised at the sound we were able to coax out of these workhorses. A 500 seat venue. Nothing but major compliments from the staff and the patrons about how clear and clean the sound was. You get you money's worth from these bad boys. I could only imagine how they would sound with a set of 15 or 18 inch subs. Btw I had 15s in the same speaker. Too much bulk & muddy. Trust me less is more. They tip & they have two ears. Make it enjoyable

Awesome speakers!

I've had these on the road for years and they have held up looks and sound wise! As far as EQ, they are great sounding boxes, no need for any exaggerated EQ. (Of course I use 1000w 18" speakers for the lows)

I have 6 BR12s and plan to buy 2 more!!

I use 2 for my solo gigs and play my backing tracks through them as well.

BR12 is mostly good news, a little bad news...

Good news first: This speaker is the perfect size and weight and handles easily. The sound can be very good if you know how to use a graphic equalizer. I was able to get a decent sound and volume out of a pair of these with only 7 bands of EQ and 125 watts per side from a small powered mixer. Moreover, with a system that offered 31 band EQ and 300 watts per side, I was able to get an excellent sound. Better than I expected considering the price point. It's a good value. The bad news is they don't sound good right out of the box: The midrange is exaggerated giving it a honky sound, the highs are weak and the bass is not deep. But doctored up with a midrange reduction and a boost on both the highs and lows, the transformation was amazing.
The other bad news is the fact that they're carpeted. Looks great now, but in time it will fray and look like hell unless you don't ever move them around. But so is the case with most speakers in that category. So yes, these Yamahas are worth the price. But expect to do a little technical magic to get them to sound right.
