Sleek Desktop Interface with Femtosecond Clock

The RME Babyface Pro FS is a powerful, yet eminently portable, bus-powered USB audio interface. It features a rugged, low-profile housing with a clean look and easy-to-use interface. Benefit from reference-quality recording, thanks to two digitally controlled microphone preamps, while ample analog, digital, and MIDI connectivity makes integration with your studio easy. The Babyface Pro FS employs the same SteadyClock FS circuit as RME’s reference-quality ADI-2 Pro AD/DA converter, ensuring ultra-stable clocking, while a bevy of design improvements offers a huge performance boost over its predecessor. Enjoy a fully flexible 288-channel mixer with 46-bit internal resolution, courtesy of RME’s TotalMix FX engine, along with latency-free processing, including a 3-band EQ, low-cut filter, reverb, and echo. Clear-cut onboard metering rounds out this state-of-the-art audio interface’s impressive features. The RME Babyface Pro FS is USB-C compatible and comes with a premium plug-in bundle, plus USB-2 and USB-C cables.

12-in/12-out audio interface in a sleek package

The sheer power and flexibility of the Babyface Pro FS are pretty remarkable when you lay your eyes on it. Its low-profile aluminum casing has a great clean look but still offers deep control over levels, sub-mixes, and gain structures. There are two reference-quality digitally controlled mic preamps, two balanced line outputs, line/instrument inputs, ADAT/SPDIF I/O, a MIDI port, and two headphone outputs. You also get onboard metering with peak and RMS calculation. Best of all, the Babyface Pro FS achieves all of this while staying very straightforward and looking great on your desk. We’re impressed by the Babyface Pro FS here at Sweetwater — it packs a lot of power into a sleek desktop interface.

Ultra-stable SteadyClock FS technology

Boasting the same SteadyClock FS circuit as RME’s reference-quality ADI-2 Pro AD/DA converter, the Babyface Pro FS takes self-jitter to new lows, eclipsing its predecessor’s already impressive performance with an upgraded analog PLL circuit and referencing both Direct Digital Synthesis and PLL to a low-phase-noise quartz crystal. In fact, the Babyface Pro FS's self-jitter reaches levels that are usually only available in master quartz clock mode, even while running in PLL mode. Thanks to this updated circuit, the Babyface Pro FS reaches jitter specs as low as a femtosecond. Just to put it in perspective, that's 1/1,000,000,000,000,000 of a second!

A bevy of other design improvements nets unbelievable sound quality

On top of its updated SteadyClock FS circuit, the Babyface Pro FS includes a bevy of other improvements over its predecessor. Its microphone preamps boast an improved signal-to-noise ratio, from 112.2dB to 113.7dB, while the line/instrument inputs went from 114dB to 116.3dB. The line inputs’ THD was improved by 8dB. The Babyface Pro FS employs the same high-quality output op-amps as the ADI-2 Pro. Its 3.5mm headphones output power was increased from 70mW to 90mW, and the THD of both headphones outputs has been improved by up to 10dB. Plus, the 3.5mm output’s impedance was lowered from 2 ohms to 0.1 ohms. A +19/+4dBu switch reduces the interface’s output level, improving its signal-to-noise ratio for sensitive active monitors, avoiding overloads and distortion, and enabling you to keep TotalMix FX’s faders near 0dB instead of at high attenuations. You also get six samples less latency on the A/D side. And all of these improvements were achieved without raising the audio interface’s power consumption!

TotalMix FX provides latency-free processing, monitoring, and effects

The Babyface Pro FS comes loaded with RME's TotalMix FX engine. This dual-DSP system uses one DSP chip for monitor mixing, leaving the other free for latency-free effects and processing. The routing side of TotalMix FX gives you a fully flexible 288-channel mixer with 46-bit internal resolution. Each of the Babyface Pro FS's channels features a 3-band EQ, low-cut filter, reverb, and echo. That means you can track with the effects and processing you need, without ever having to worry about latency or your computer's processing power.

Babyface Pro Bundle supplies a host of value-packed extras

The RME Babyface Pro FS includes a premium plug-in bundle that’s sure to jumpstart your creativity. Scuffham’s S-Gear is a top-shelf, ultra-flexible guitar amp simulator that was created by a former product designer from a certain legendary British amplifier company. Brainworx bx_opto yields classic optical-style compression with a streamlined interface, while bx_masterdesk reproduces the sound of a high-end analog mastering system. You also get trial versions of Pianoteq 6 by Modartt and the Blue 3 Organ by GG Audio, along with a 14-day, full version of Gig Performer. You also get a 3-month subscription to Antares Autotune Unlimited. This USB-C-compatible audio interface includes USB-2 and USB-C cables.

wonderfull interface !

Where should i start . I was Universal Audio Apollo Twin X user for the past few years really good quality built product however this thing is not for windows !!! If you are Mac user you are fine and i would recommend it . I had countless fights within hardware/software tweaks and audio latency crack pops DAW crashes and everything in between so it was time for switch . i had RME in mind for a while but wasn't sure how good aging USB2 connection could be but oh boy how surprised i am working with the Babyface Pro fS. Flawless!!! doesn't matter what the vst's demands are i can run them with confidence now.i will include some screenshots of my master channel running ozone 11 plugins i used to have 300-400ms latency on the apollo as well my overall latency running on 24bit 48khz 128/64 even 48 samples with few instances of Serum, Avenger 2 and Diva synths as well ozone 11 eq , imager, vintage compressor and limiter on master in Bitwig 5.1.6 and there is absolutely no issues . RME drivers team doing some serious VOODOO!quick word about Totalmix fx and DIGICheck. ive listened some bad stories about difficulties learning the mixer i had no issues whatsoever so this is user to user experience . what i could recommend to RME is some kind of visual feedback on loopback input right now its about to remember what is and where enabled . DIGIcheck quickly become my favorite loudness/ phase /eq monitoring suite having bunch of waves or fabfilter stuff and this is absolutely free!like how? If stability DAW performance and minimum latency its your priority you cant possibly look elsewhere trust me !
Special thanks to my Sweetwater representative Jason for great phone conversation recommending RME! We will deal with more their stuff in near future!

Great sound, great design.

I just received this and have recorded some acoustic guitar with the same setup that I used a few days prior with my Quantum 2 interface (into the same session). I was able to A/B them and the Babyface Pro FS was the clear winner! A lot more detail - not sure how to describe exactly what I was hearing, it was just... better! I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger on this. The preamp and clocking quality kept bringing it to the top of what was within my budget (I was going to go as high as $1500 if I had to). I called Sweetwater and spoke with Craig and he confirmed that the this would indeed deliver the best sound quality compared to anything else in my price range. He also said that it is the very interface he uses. The design is solid, sleek, and simple. BTW, I'm recording thru a FatHead II Ribbon blended with a WA47Jr (Omni) - both running thru my new Soyuz Launcher Deluxe (see my review on that) - then into the Babyface. The sound quality I'm capturing has just gone up a level! The raw tracks are sounding like they would only need minimal EQ. Very happy with this.

Blown away.

Absolutely phenomenal. From the warm, full sound it gives my guitars and vocals, to the ease of operation, this interface just kills it. I had no idea what I was missing out on by using entry level focustrite and motu interfaces in my little home studio. Don't get me wrong. I've made some really good sounding mixes with them, and released two eps on my motu m2, but it took so much more work to get everything to sit right in the mix. I cannot believe how easy this has made it for me now! Thank you so much RME and Sweetwater! As always, Sweetwater is the best company to deal with when making a musical purchase!

AMAZING

I was cautious about all new audio interfaces with the new Apple M1 Silicon computers, my old Apogee Duet was having big problems.
So I took a chance on this. I have had another RME 10 years ago, and I remember how good they can be.
BUT WOW! Super impressed.
I am still only on the basic level of plugging it in, downloading and installing the driver and TotalMixFX, and just recording my first acoustic guitar (through the Slate Digital Mic and Pre Amp) but the clarity and noiselessness of this interface is incredible. My acoustic has never sounded this good.
I haven't worked my way through the TotalMixFX yet, all in good time. But I wanted to say a big YES to this.

Very easy to use

I bought this as a first step to build a home studio and it has worked like gangbusters. The preamp sounds crystal clear and it's extremely usable with protools
