Flamenco Flavor

Getting into flamenco? The Yamaha CG172SF Nylon-string Flamenco Acoustic Guitar is for you. With its lower action, superior craftsmanship, and affordable price, the CG172SF is the ideal instrument if you're thinking about branching out musically. The CG172SF features a solid spruce top, cypress back and sides, and a nato neck with a rosewood fingerboard. Drawing upon the vast experience of Yamaha's master luthiers, CG series nylon-string guitars deliver exceptional sound, performance, and playability. Get your flamenco on with the Yamaha CG172SF.

Solid spruce top for great sound

Sweetwater knows that the choice of top wood can make or break the sound of a nylon-string guitar. For the CG172SF, Yamaha chose a solid spruce top. Chosen as much for its look as its tone, solid spruce has a rich sound with excellent projection. And because it's a solid-wood top, the tone of your Yamaha CG172SF will age gracefully with enhanced harmonics and greater tonal balance as the years go by.

Full-width nut for true classical spacing

The Yamaha CG172SF offers a 2.0625" nut width that allows you to play using true classical and flamenco techniques. Unlike many guitars in this price range, the CG172SF gives you full spacing for executing proper rest strokes and free strokes. This larger width also makes complex fingerings easier on the fretboard.

Yamaha CG172SF Nylon-string Flamenco Acoustic Guitar Features:

  • Solid spruce top
  • Cypress back and sides
  • Nato neck; rosewood fingerboard
  • Rosewood bridge

Yamaha Flamenco Guitar CG172SF

Bought this guitar last September and am delighted with its beautiful sound, its light weight and ease of play. I also use it as my main guitar for a guitar ensemble that I am a member of. I can't really think anything of any negative points about this guitar except that the first fret may be a little hard for fingers which is not untypical of many guitar. I give it 5 stars.

Awesome guitar

I've been playing guitar for 2 years. I'd say I'm an intermediate. I love this guitar. I can't stop playing it.
The action is great. It's easy to play. No buzzing.
It's shocking this is a cheap guitar.

Of course the customer service was incredible. Tomir is so sweet. The packages was on time like usual and I received a voicemail from Tomir thanking me for my purchase and letting me know the time in which the package would come.

Thanks again Sweetwater
Music background: I’ve played guitar and bass for 2 years.

Great guitar value for the money

I had been learning / playing flamenco techniques and compas, on a more standard setup cedar top classical guitar. This was fine, but wanted to step up to a more tailored instrument for the style. The Yamaha CG172SF was a good choice. I tried to get one here in the Philippines, as well as a Cordova F7. No luck, as even the biggest music stores , did not stock the models, and seemed unwilling to order.
I always liked Sweetwater's, customer service.. and their 55 point inspection was no mistake with my choice in the USA. Although they could not send me directly overseas.. I had a shipper that did, in CA.
The guitar came out of the box, set up well.. and in perfect shape. It has a lot of punch, and decent natural sustain and clarity.. with the flamenco type growl I wanted. I am also impressed with Yamaha's quality control and standards, for being assembled / tested in China. I suggest watching the Yamaha factory video presentation, from Hangzhou China... which I did before ordering, and still considering models.
With the next change of strings, I will try a LaBella 2001 set. I am also going to fab a bone saddle to match the existing, and maybe take down the action just a bit more. I am interested, if it will add even more to clarity of tone.
All and all.. a great value for the money out of the box, to get behind a flamenco guitar.

Great for both flamenco and classical

For many years now, I've owned two Yamaha classical guitars that cost less than this one but are perfectly good instruments.

So I bought this guitar a few months ago to be able to get that genuine flamenco sound with a golpeador to protect the wood. And it's great for that! But it's also a great guitar for classical music, which took me by surprise (despite its name). The action, out of the box, works for both flamenco and classical -- not as low as some flamenco guitars, and not as high as some classical guitars. The tone is beautiful on every string at every fret.

How does Yamaha produce guitars of such high quality for such a reasonable price?
