Yamaha's Next-gen DGX Portable Grand

Yamaha takes their acclaimed DGX series to the next level with the DGX-670 portable grand. If you want Yamaha tone and touch in a feature-packed 88-key digital piano, Sweetwater has your ideal instrument. The Yamaha DGX-670 gives you the natural feel of Yamaha's GHS weighted action — heavier in the bass, lighter in the treble range — that incorporates matte black keys to absorb moisture for a supremely comfortable playing experience. Sonically, the DGX-670 raises the bar with Yamaha's cutting-edge CFX Stereo Sampling, which delivers the inimitable, majestic sound of the company's flagship CFX concert grand. Plug a microphone into the Yamaha DGX-670's mic input and sing along with your playing — you'll hear your vocals through the onboard speakers, and you can record your performance to USB memory.

Your musical journey continues

You'll rediscover your love of making music with the Yamaha DGX-670. Yamaha's You Are the Artist library makes it enjoyable to learn the songs you've always wanted to play, using sheet music from Hal Leonard, or just by reading the scrolling notes on the DGX-670's onboard Score Display. Explore the world of Yamaha music apps for iPad with the optional UD-WL01 wireless LAN adapter (available separately). Yamaha apps such as Chord Tracker will advance your piano playing like never before.

Packed with high-tech features to fit whatever sound and style you desire

The DGX-670 is packed with the latest Yamaha technology to help advance you on your musical journey. Professional-quality grand pianos are no longer reserved for the concert hall, thanks to the DGX-670's Yamaha CFX voice, which conjures all of the power, clarity, and room-filling resonance of a genuine piano. This impressive arranger's 88 weighted keys will have you forgetting it isn't the real thing, perfect for beginners and veterans who seek a shockingly realistic feel from their instrument. The DGX-670 truly shines with regard to its style and voice options, with over 260 styles to choose from and a staggering 630 high-quality instrument voices at your disposal. The highly advanced Adaptive Style accompanies you like a seasoned musician would, analyzing your playing in real time with all of the appropriate accents and dynamics. Simple Style works similarly to Adaptive Style but focuses solely on the rhythm and bass sections, a great tool when wanting your notes to shine through the arrangement. The DGX-670's Unison & Accent function interacts with a foot pedal seamlessly, adding a doubled voice to your melody line and accenting notes with rhythmic "shots" when playing with more force. Smart Chord mode rounds out this incredible instrument's high-tech offerings, making it easy to play sophisticated chords by expanding simple triads into 7th and 9th chords, for instance, with just a few fingers.

Sonic superiority

Yamaha has been building acoustic pianos since 1900 and the company has been on the cutting edge of digital technology for decades. Under the hood of the DGX-670 are proprietary digital audio technologies such as Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM), which meticulously models the limitless number of factors that create the sound of a concert grand piano to impart vivid and richly varied expression to your music. For non-keyboard instruments, Yamaha's Super Articulation Voices intuitively reproduce natural expressive nuances, allowing keyboard players to achieve stunningly realistic renditions of orchestral instruments, guitars, and more. To inspire you further, Dual Mode lets you combine two Voices together, such as piano and strings, to create totally new hybrid sounds. Of course, the DGX-670 also features wireless Bluetooth audio that lets you connect your music player, so you can listen to and play along with your favorite songs!

Best buy for a small studio piano on a budget!!

I am not a classically trained pianist (self taught). However, I do have a discerning ear. I wanted an electronic piano that felt and (especially) sounded like an acoustic piano but had more creative bells and whistles than the lower-end pianos. I am so glad I bought the triple pedal unit as I would not have learned the nuances of half pedal and other techniques available through the Yamaha pedal. It was also important to me to be able to feed the keyboard to my DAW (Logic) and get at my library of samples (DGX I/O is analog headphone and there is MIDI) have seen a few reviews with mild complaints about the 670, but I find it hard to hold those against this fine product. First of all, this unit is under $. It is NOT a $ workstation or stage piano.

I do agree that the label "portable grand" is a bit comical, but every professional reviewer mentions the weight. Also, when you do a feature compare on the Sweetwater web site, that spec is clearly evident. Additionally, my Sweetwater Sales Engineer (Stuart Niven), always patiently asks me what I am looking for and how I intend to use the product. This has saved me from disappointment and steered me right on many purchases over the years.

The quality of the piano sounds is wonderful! The fact that the CFX Grand is the default power on sound was a shrewd decision by Yamaha. I always have trouble moving away from the beautiful VRM modeled Yamaha grand set in its subtle environment.

Super articulated instruments are a great feature, especially the sax, flute guitar and organ with Leslie (rotary). They allow for some very convincing and evocative playing to add to any recording (or solo with a accompaniment mode).

Strings and voices I am not too impressed with, but I have been using orchestral and choir libraries for years now and so I'm a bit spoiled.

I would probably want more on the pads as well, but again, I have libraries.

Using the accompaniment mode is pretty straightforward and impressive when using the adaptive styles, as this mode changes the dynamics and styling of the accompaniment to match the dynamics of your playing. One of my favorite toys is to choose the 70's Glam Rock style and play Elton John's "Rocket Man" (Oh man!)

If you are inclined, the environments, effects, and levels can all be edited so a lot of subtlety can be achieved. Just press the mixer button and get lost in the creative caverns of consummation!

The DGX670 does not do everything, but I would dare say it delivers more quality sound and creative power per dollar than any other sub $ piano.
Music background: Singer songwriter, worship, ballads, jingles and themes.

Outstanding if it is what you are looking for

I think the DGX670 is a killer device if you are in the market for what it provides. I played piano for years, then didn't...for even longer. I missed it, but didn't want to invest in an acoustic piano, nor did I want the size and weight.

I knew I wanted a piano for my home that gave me an acoustic piano experience, but also didn't want to spend too much in case I actually didn't miss playing as much as I thought I did. I liked some other products much better (2-3x the money)- ie close your eyes and you couldn't tell you were playing a digital piano. This one sounds like an acoustic, but the keys are ever-so -slightly different - i'm going to say this is a 97% vs acoustic feel for me, everyone will have their own view of course. It has more features than I'll probably ever get to, but I like knowing they are there so I can fiddle with them eventually. If all you want are the piano voices, there are probably different (better?) options. For me this hit the sweet spot.

Not Kidding - Truly Awesome!

Just purchased this keyboard (the bundle with the stand and pedals) and I first want to say that the entire affair is absolutely AMAZING engineering - from the shipping box, internal packaging, manuals to the keyboard itself! If you buy the stand and also the pedals, (which do more than just standard grand piano pedals - they trigger sounds and patches and not even sure what else just yet!) you will have to assemble them - yet I am 70.8 years old and my wife is 67.4 - we put the stuff together in less than one hour! Every single screw was engineered to just thread properly without having to force anything. Everything lined up line a charm. Really 5 stars for not only the depth of sound (we haven't even tried the drum patches or the styles - just some pianos and accordions and so far everything is quite amazing) but the build and sound quality coming right from the internal speakers!
One thing - it is HEAVY - we got our young man who cuts our lawn to carry it into the house and paid him a tip. If you are over 55 years old maybe, you might want to get help getting it in the house, but once you open it up and take all the parts out it is more manageable - but the piano itself is still heavy, so get some assistance.
As for the sound - my wife is over the moon with the FEEL of the Keyboard itself (she is an accomplished pianist who knows a good feel to the keys, but try one yourself) and the sounds. I myself am a longtime Sweetwater customer and a recording studio owner, a guitarist for 60 years and a Film score composer and I am really going to be able to use this guy! For the price, I think this is the best darn deal I have ever come across - it should cost a thousand dollars more.
Music background: 60 year professional guitarist/bassist/music composer with 4 Daytime Emmy awards.

Awesome

Primarily purchased for my grandson. He loves it. I already had a Yamaha DGX660. The DGX670 is the updated version of the 660. Very happy with the purchase. My sales engineer is Jim Swain. He is very knowledgeable regarding audio products and is great to work with.

Also purchased the stand built for the DGX670. Makes the DGX670 complete. Very stable.
