Vintage Analog Delay with a Modern Mod Onboard

Ever since the original DM-2 analog delay pedal left the market in 1984, pedal collectors have been on the lookout for its dark and moody bucket brigade tone. The BOSS Waza Craft DM-2W isn't just a reissue DM-2 - it's a total rebuild that offers you the same amazing character with none of the clock noise that plagued the original - and that's just the standard mode. Next, there's the DM-2W's custom mode, which increases the maximum delay time from 300ms to 800ms and adds warmth and clarity to the repeats for a more modern analog-delay sound. What's more, both of the DM-2W's modes take advantage of two additional modifications, which include split optional split wet/dry outputs and an expression pedal input that lets you control delay time on the fly.

Waza Craft: a higher art of stompbox design

The Japanese word "waza" means art and technique, an appropriate name for BOSS's premium line of redesigned guitar effects pedals. You see, the pedal collectors here at Sweetwater have seen more than enough special-edition stompboxes that are only a paint job away from the originals, which is why we're so blown away by what BOSS has done with the Waza Craft series. Even in their Standard modes, Waza Craft pedals sound like idealized versions of the originals, offering the same sonic character that made them iconic, but with less noise and more consistent tone. And when you A/B the standard mode and the custom mode, the contrast is nothing short of astonishing.

BOSS Waza Craft DM-2W Analog Delay Pedal Features:
  • A custom reissue and redesign of the original 1977 DM-2 analog delay pedal
  • New bucket brigade circuit topology provides authentic tonal character without clock noise
  • Standard mode offers the dark and brooding analog delay sound of the original DM-2
  • Custom modes doubles the delay time to up to 800ms and adds warmth and clarity to the repeats
  • Split outputs let you run your direct and delay sounds separately
  • Plug in an expression pedal for on-the-fly delay time control

Waza Craft Delay Pedal

The DM-2W is a great, sturdy pedal.
If this unit had a tap tempo, it would easily score a five star rating for me.
This pedal is being used on a small board by a weekend warrior guitarist gigging with an 8-piece brass ensemble as well as with a 4-piece vocal group setting playing small rooms.
The DM-2W works as advertised, as have all of the Waza Craft pedals in my current go-to board.

A sweet pedal from Sweetwater !

Awesome pedal ! Exactly what I? What I was looking for in a delayed pedal.

Finally a Delay

I am on my 4th delay pedal (carbon copy, rubber neck, dd-7) and somehow the other ones just did not quite hit the spot. I am gravitating back to Boss as playing live with my dumb feet I need a big pedal switch to hit "on". I am not super high maintenance with my effects, I just want them to sound right... This one does the trick with lush sweet delay that deep in my soul I've been craving. Please don't get it as I want it to be my secret sauce.

Maybe the best delay pedal ever?!

I've tried a TON of delay pedals, and the DM-2w is just pure analog satisfaction. Both modes are great. I have other more feature packed delay pedals, but right now, this is the one on my board, and when I switch back to a different one, it simply doesn't sound as good. For me, the perfection of these repeats remove any desire I may have had for additional bells and whistles. This is pure analog delay goodness stripped down to perfection.

Smooth And Gorgeous

First of all, let's address the negatives.

This delay does NOT have a tap tempo, and I couldn't care less because the sound is stunning.

Besides in his video "Delays For Synths," Demon Dan Fisher points out that it's more interesting to knock the delay off tempo.

And you have three knobs to control the three parameters.

Now let's talk about the positives.

The sound is beautiful, and this is the primary reason to pull the trigger.

It's analog.

It's made in Japan and NOT in a Chinese sweatshop.

It's built like a tank.

It accepts 9 volt batteries or juice from a power supply.

It outputs both the delayed signal and the direct out signal.

And it has a custom switch to go from a dark delay to a brighter delay.

Yes, there are delays that give the user so many more options, but the simplicity and beauty of this pedal is a nice change from having too many options.

What this pedal does it does beautifully.

Embrace the Zen of this pedal and buy it.
