DP-32SD: 32-track TASCAM Portastudio

The TASCAM DP-32SD Digital Portastudio packs the flexibility of a fully loaded DAW into a single piece of ultra-reliable hardware. With eight individual input channels, the 32-channel DP-32SD lets you easily track an entire band. A studio's worth of onboard effects, signal processors, and mastering tools gives you everything you need to polish your tracks to perfection and save them to the included SD card or export them to your computer via USB. And thanks to its intuitive master section and full set of hands-on controls, producing music with the TASCAM DP-32SD Digital Portastudio is as fun as it is rewarding.

Enough simultaneous inputs to track a whole band

Track the whole band at once with the TASCAM DP-32SD Digital Portastudio. The DP-32SD comes loaded with eight individual inputs. Each input is equipped with an XLR-1/4" combo jack and a microphone preamplifier, complete with phantom power for your condenser mics. That means even if you use a handful of microphones on drums and a few more on guitars and bass, you'll still have inputs left over on the DP-32SD TASCAM Portastudio to track vocals.

Loaded with fun onboard effects and powerful built-in signal processors

No studio is complete without quality effects and signal processors. That's why TASCAM loaded their DP-32SD Digital Portastudio with a ton of studio-style tools. Record with vital processors such as equalizers, compressors, and limiters, while the DP-32SD's onboard guitar/amp-simulation engine adds real amplifier sound to your instrument input. You can sweeten your sound with reverb, chorus, and other enhancements during mixdown. What's more, the DP-32SD TASCAM Portastudio's powerful onboard mastering effects let you get the most out of your final mixes.

Intuitive channel strip-style controls make tracking and mixing easy

Why wade through tedious menus for the controls that should be close at hand? TASCAM built the DP-32SD to be both powerful and intuitive to use, with none of the frustrating awkwardness that plagues over-engineered gear. The DP-32SD's simple master channel strip section gives you hands-on controls for your channel EQ, pan, and send settings. There's also an easy-to-read color display that gives you instant feedback as you tweak your channel settings, effects, and processors, as well as dedicated controls for all essential recording functions.

Silent, flawless portable studio.

An amazing tool. 32 tracks - 16 or 24 bit, 44 or 48kHz. Create settings for each song - up to 24 tracks per song (8 mono and 16 mono or stereo) AND each track can store up to 8 takes. Phantom power for up to 4 channels simultaneously. Records up to 8 tracks simultaneously. I prefer this to using a laptop or computer because the unit is dedicated to recording and is utterly silent. I put mine on a podium with caster wheels on it and I just push it around from my vocal sound booth to my drum kit to my keyboards and guitars - inside the podium I have small powered monitors and a set of headphones (for vocals, drums and acoustic instruments). With the SD card storage it is super easy to record and then transfer the files to the computer DAW and vice versa - so loading a click track or mix from the computer onto the Tascam is very easy. Because of the size and it being lightweight it is also easy to transport. The unit more than paid for itself after recording my first album since I never had to go to a studio or hire engineers.

Best bang for the buck.

I've been using the Tascam DP-008 for the better part of eight years before finally buying the DP-32, a year ago. I wasn't ready to to dive into a PC based recording platform, and wanted portability with all necessary interfaces in one package. Was able to quickly jump in, navigate through the controls and start recording. Very impressed with the sound quality and features. In my opinion, though it may not be perfect on all points, you would be hard pressed to get more bang for your buck. Well worth the money.

Still Learning This Machine, But Pretty Favorable

I bought the 24-track version of this machine. Back around the turn of the century, I got a KORG 16-track and used it for some years. I figured the skill-set I developed there would translate to the TASCAM, and have been about half right, so far. I started out taking some acoustic guitar tracks and bass direct. The ability to switch one input to high impedance for guitar use is priceless. I always had a lot of trouble getting a good bass sound out of the KORG. The TASCAM takes a direct passive bass beautifully.

Today I worked with a live mic for the first time. Getting a sound was no problem. Getting a reverb to print on a track took me quite awhile. The manual is a bit unclear on this. I'm hoping it gets easier.

My only complaint: the built-in metronome is hideous! It's a piercing high-mid 'clack' that is the aural equivalent of repeatedly stabbing yourself in the ears. My old KORG gave the option of swapping out the click for a hi-hat or other, more useful tone. If this capability exists on the TASCAM, neither the manual nor any of the available YouTube videos admits to it. I'm looking for a work-around--either an outboard metronome or a drum machine.

I haven't used half the features yet. I'm still pretty new to this piece, but it's quite promising. Well worth the money, especially considering that I was an early adopter for my old KORG, and spent four times as much on it.

It Does Much More Than I Need.

In the last few days, I have had to consider buying a new Tascam DP32-SD. The first one I bought was back in 2014 ($ on sale). It is finally starting to have FWD button issues. I am buying the same one because I have been working on a new project since late last year and do not want to learn another device. It works quite well for my purpose. My aim is to record tracks as clean as possible or get the sound/vibe as good as it is in the "real world." I am not a fan of computer recording and I don't have the big bucks for a "professional" home studio. The portastudio just works for me in the most basic way of recording. My hearing is bad enough that I transfer my tracks and go to a professional studio to mix and master. So, I am not using the portastudio to its full potential, but that is just fine with me. It gets me in the ball park quite easily.

Tascam DP 32 sd

I'm buying my second DP 32 SD, 7 years on my current dp32, I really love these stand alone multitracks. No doubt, Tascam is the best, the easiest way to record period. I've owned the 2448 HD 24 track, the cassette Porta studio 4 & 8 tracks, & a Tascam Mixer, all have been great products.
