Marshall's Legendary DSL Is Back in Action

Tap into burly Marshall tone with a conveniently compact combo, with the Marshall DSL5CR tube combo amplifier. With per-channel Gain and Volume controls, reverb, and an effects loop, the DSL5CR is ready to rock. And with its adjustable power level, you can dial in cranked-amp tones that won't wake your neighbors — or even use the Softube speaker-emulated output for direct recording and monitoring. Marshall even refined the EQ section for extremely versatile tone shaping. From glassy cleans to bone-rattling crunch to blistering high gain, your wish is the Marshall DSL5CR's command.

A 5-watt tone beast

Marshall's DSL5CR is an all-tube, twin-channel tone machine capable of conjuring any classic Marshall sound — past or present. Two ECC83s in the preamp section (in concert with the amp's gain/master volume arrangement) give you stunning tone-shaping mojo, and with an ECC99 in the power amplifier, you've got power that's ideal for everything from the studio to the bedroom. You get a deep switch for defining low-end girth, a rear-panel power switch that reduces the amp's power to a single watt, and a bypassable rear-panel series effects loop.

The DSL series — a revered tonal heritage

The Marshall DSL5CR hails from a revered lineage. Marshall introduced the JCM2000 Dual Super Lead (DSL) series amps in 1997. Right from the get-go, these all-tube monsters enjoyed enthusiastic approval by guitarists and the press alike, forming the backlines of top acts in all musical genres and bludgeoning audiences worldwide for a decade before being replaced by Marshall's JVM series (a musical powerhouse in its own right). Considered the go-to rock amp by many tone-savvy guitarists, there is considerable pent-up demand for Dual Super Leads. And thus, Marshall is proud to introduce the new-and-improved DSL series.

Softube speaker-emulated output

Marshall has teamed up with software mavens Softube to create exceptional tones in their CODE series of amplifiers, and they've joined forces again on the DSL5CR. Its line output features an accurate emulation of Marshall's iconic 1960 speaker cabinet, allowing you to plug directly into a recording chain with confidence. Guitarists at Sweetwater love flexible recording options, and the DSL5CR delivers.

Excellent Marshall sound - nice size for home jamming

I called Taylor Perry at Sweetwater music at 11:00 on a Friday and ordered this. It showed up at my house at 2:00 on Saturday. How does Sweetwater do it.? Amazon isn't even that quick. The amp is great. It has that great Marshall sound that I was looking for, and you get the great sound at a volume that doesn't rattle the house. It sounds great through headphones too! I don't even have that good of headphones and it sounds great. Would definitely buy this amp again. A good friend bought one at the same time and he loves his as well. Thank you Taylor Perry at Sweetwater for making this happen so quickly.

Skeptical buyer

I won’t talk specs. Everyone here already has searched it out. However the amp and tone can be amazing with both channels. Especially if you have a nice guitar. I play 2 Gibson’s and a fender through mine.cant beat it. Marshall. This thing can handle any genre It’s 1 watt mode is still loud as it can be Don’t let the YouTube videos determine your decision. I give the amp 4.8 of 5. And that reason is they should have put a 12 in it. But the speaker it comes with had plenty of punch.

Close to perfection

I got my first tube amp for home use and I was so happy with it that I wanted to recomend it. (I play it with my Epi Dot with Pearly Gates set, and Squier Mustang. No pedals)

First of all the clean channel is fenomenal, very warm with fat bass, clear and open midrange even with humbuckers and the treble is soft. Though the clean channel is called „classic gain" it doesn't break up, the gain knob only makes it warmer, more punchy and compressed.

The digital reverb sounds great, very useable, but not an ambient type, more in a spring range but with just different feel. When I compared the reverbs with the spring one on my 2005 marshall mg15cdr I honestly prefered the digital one. But if you like the ambient stuff then there's always the efects loop.

The ultra gain channel does exactly what it says, it's either full on saturated goodness or nothing at all. Around 7 it starts to produce that sweet saturation we all love: aggesive, extrordinary for palm mutes, it's like having a roaring JCM 800 in your room, but bellow 7 it chokes, it's undefined and to aggresive for blues, it wants you to crank it.

But as I've said, it's only close to perfection, because it doesn't do breakup, like at all, even when you crank up the master it's just more punchy. Sometimes the bass is overwhelming and to loose, the foot switch has a fx loop on/off and nothing for reverb which is absurd and the emulated output is bad (andertones have it in their video)

But even considering all those imperfections I know it is still worth it, cause there is simple solution to it: pedals. I'm sure that with a low drive pedal like bluesbreaker or boss od-3 it will fill be the best home amp ever.

Goldilocks amp

The only knock on this amp to me is that there's a gap in the distortion amount between where the classic channel ends and the ultra channel begins. It's exactly where an overdrive pedal would fit in though. Other than that's it's perfect. Sounds awesome, not flubby or brittle. It cranks satisfyingly at a polite volume. It's versatile and well built. This one's a keeper for sure over three or four other amps I've had comparable to this.
My final amp lineup-
Fender Deluxe Reverb
Vox AC15
Marshall DSL5
Roland JC22
Maybe a modeler in the future someday!

Exactly as advertised

I am loving this amp! It's sturdy and well constructed but more importantly, it delivers the tone. After researching low wattage tube amps for apartment friendly options, I decided to go with this one. The 5 watt setting is great for jamming and the 0.5 watt is ideal for the apartment. Both channels sound fantastic and it is great with pedals.

There are countless "British"-style guitar amplifiers out there, but take it from the lifelong guitarists and tone connoisseurs at Sweetwater, when it comes to Marshall tone, there's nothing like the real thing. We've played them all, from vintage JTM45s and the ultra-cool Plexi reissue to modern handmade masterpieces such as the JVM410. There isn't a model among them we can't recommend with total confidence, and that includes their more affordable models too, like MG, DSL, and Code series amps. Thanks to our tight relationship with Marshall, Sweetwater's always on the cutting edge of their latest designs, custom models, and limited-edition gems. If you want iconic tone from across the pond, you want Marshall, and your Sweetwater Sales Engineer will help you find the perfect one.
