Thousands of Sounds in this Great-playing Percussion Pad!

When you get the DTX-MULTI 12, you've got versatile, responsive percussion sounds — perfect for fleshing out your acoustic kit or programming beats into your DAW. If you're going with an electronic percussion pad, you know that the feel of the pads is just as important as the sounds. We're glad to tell you that the Yamaha DTX-MULTI 12 delivers on both fronts. In fact, Yamaha managed to pack in a number of sounds from their flagship MOTIF synthesizer, so you know the DTX-MULTI 12 sounds phenomenal.

Whatever your style or setup, the DTX-MULTI 12 is ready to deliver. Use it alongside your acoustic kit to give your onstage sound new flavor. You'll find awesome folk and acoustic drum instrument sounds, chromatic percussion, DJ voices, and more. The DTX-MULTI 12 can even play back imported WAV and AIFF files! When it's time to record, this percussion pad is also a star. Thanks to the USB port on the back of it, you can record your percussion ideas straight to your DAW. In fact, Yamaha included Cubase AI 5 recording software, so you're already prepared for PC recording.

Don't forget that practice makes perfect — and that's one more reason you need the DTX-MULTI 12. You can plug in optional KP65 (kick) and HH65 (hi-hat) pedals. When you put on a set of headphones, pick up your sticks, and start playing, it's going to feel like you're jamming on a regular kit! What a great way to work on your chops without disturbing your family or your neighbors. Want to feed your need for even more drum pads? It's no problem. Connect up to five external trigger pads to your DTX-MULTI 12 and jam away.

Wheels within wheels. Plans within plans.

TWO WEEKS IN: IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING THE MULTI-12 AND WEIGHTING IT AGAINST OTHER OPTIONS, THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE YOU IS TO TRY OUT THE 'DTXM12 TOUCH' APP. IT'S FREE AND WILL ALLOW YOU TO GO THROUGH ALL THE VOICES, PARAMETERS, EFFECTS. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO START BUILDING KITS WITHIN MINUTES OF OPENING IT! EXCEPT FOR WHAT'S ON YOUTUBE, YOU ACTUALLY NEED THE UNIT TO HEAR THE SOUNDS. BUT—IF YOU ARE COMFORTABLE WITH THE APP, YOU WILL BE COMFORTABLE WITH THE MULTI-12.
I'M NOT A TECH GUY AT ALL, BUT IN MY FREE TIME THESE LAST TWO WEEKS, I'VE BEEN ABLE TO RECORDED DEMOS WITH JAPANESE PERCUSSION, HAVE LAID OUT BELLS AND SYNTH KITS THAT ARE TAILORED FOR SPECIFIC CHORD PROGRESSIONS & KEYS AND I'VE LOADED SAMPLES OF 80s GATED CONCERT TOMS!
OKAY, THIS NEXT PART IS STUFF I HAD TO FIGURE OUT THAT MAY HELP YOU. I'LL TRY TO GO IN AN ORDER THAT MAKES SENSE.
1-BEFORE YOU TRY LINKING YOUR TABLET TO THE MULTI-12, GO TO PRODUCT'S PAGE ON YAMAHA'S SITE AND GET THE APPROPRIATE DOWNLOAD(S). USB-MIDI DRIVER IS CRUCIAL. IT'S ALL FREE AND YOU SHOULD BOOKMARK THAT PAGE, THE MANUAL'S THERE.
2-IF YOUR DOING ANYTHING THAT SUSTAINS, "Receiver Key Off" IS YOUR BEST FRIEND! PAGE 64 OF THE MANUAL. IN THE APP, TAP A PAD, TAP THE VOICE, TAP THE LAYER AND AN ON/OFF SLIDER IS JUST UNDER THE VOICE.
3-SOOO…YOU'RE IN THE SAME PLACE YOU FOUND THE Receiver Key Off, ABOVE THE VOICE IT SAYS Note with something like
D 2/50 IN BLUE LETTERS. IF YOUR GOING TO USE A VOICE THAT HAS AN ACTUAL NOTE- SET THAT SAME NOTE IN THE PAD AND ALSO IN THE PARAMETERS. CHANGING THE NOTE IN THE PAD WILL NOT TUNE IT BUT IT WILL LOCK IT IN. THIS IS ESPECIALLY AN ISSUE IF YOUR LAYERING NOTES AND HAVE THE SAME NOTE REPEATING IN THE SAME KIT. LIKE IF C IS YOUR ROOT ON A LAYER AND ALSO YOUR FIFTH ON ANOTHER PAD'S B LAYER…BUT YOU DON'T HAVE AN E ASSIGNED ANYWHERE. SO IT KEEPS CHANGING IT TO E…LOCK THE NOTES IN ON THE PAD. TUNE THEM IN PARAMETERS.
ALSO, EVERY TIME I'VE SUCCESSFULLY LOADED A SAMPLE, I'VE GOTTEN AN "Illegal blahblah" MESSAGE, BUT IT'S WORKED.

The Spice must flow.
Music background: I got to see Frank Beard play last year. Billy and Elwood were there to.

Works like a charm

Using the Yamaha EAD, DD-75 DD-65
The D T X seems to be a great unit live. I'm performing 150 dates a season I love the DD-75 as my live go to. So that said Yamaha DD-75 needs a few changes in the drum effects it uses no Chicken or Cow or rap Sean's just more drum and cymbals Sean's would help.
And they need to move the controls to either side of the unit drum sticks can really mess up a song when you hit the play button.
As far as The DTX12 I'm going to perform with it after July 8th.
Also I would like Yamaha to set up more drum Sean's on a flash you can buy to program more drum and cymbals Sean's. Sincerely David Scott Underground Sound Entertainment Music Production.

One-trip trap kit

I played a gig with a 5-piece band with two guitars and a sax player using only the DTX-M12 and a Roland KD-9 kick trigger. Results were excellent--the dance floor was movin', people were groovin', and my band mates kept looking around for the trap kit....This is a well-designed, easy to program unit that sounds and plays great. My two complaints are: lack of numerical data entry (to avoid having to scroll through the entire program list to change Kits) and lack of separate audio outputs. I understand both of these were probably omitted to allow the unit to sell at certain price point, and be a certain size, but they would be excellent additions to the design. Fitting my DTX, Roland KD-9, stand and cables in one 61-key keyboard soft case made a difficult load-in a breeze. One trip gigs are something new and wonderful for me.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Cristian Good

I've used the Yamaha DTX-MULTI 12 in just about every environment I can think of, and it's held up like a champ, even in the heat and humidity of summer. It's my desert-island percussion pad. The pads are super easy to program too, especially with the iPad app, and the sounds that come onboard the DTX-MULTI 12 are authentic and easy to work into the rest of my kit.
