Yamaha's Next-generation 12" DXS Sub

Featuring an upgraded electronics section that delivers more power and low-frequency extension, the Yamaha DXS12mkII 12" active subwoofer is even more formidable than its predecessor. The DXS12mkII combines a super-efficient 800-watt Class D amplifier with a rugged, highly efficient bandpass cabinet that assists the DXS12mkII in achieving a remarkable 134dB SPL rating. Low-frequency response has also been extended down to 42Hz. The DXS12mkII features Yamaha's D-XSUB DSP processing, which provides higher output and improved frequency response in a compact, lightweight enclosure that's ideal for smaller stages. With higher maximum SPL, extended low-frequency range, and the clarity and punch you've come to expect from the DXS Series, the Yamaha DXS12MKII gives your sound the professional edge.

High-power Class D amplifier

The Yamaha DXS12mkII employs an 800-watt (continuous) Class D amplifier to serve up rich, solid bass reinforcement. The ample wattage doesn't just let the DXS12mkII get loud, it gives it the headroom needed to reproduce the dynamics and nuances of your music. And because the amplifier doesn't require active cooling, you can run the DXS12mkII at high volume levels for extended periods without distortion or thermal shutdown.

Stellar sound quality

Yamaha used a lot of innovative technology to get the maximum sonic quality out of the DXS12mkII powered subwoofer. For example, Yamaha's proprietary D-XSUB processing lets you extend the frequency response of the DXS12mkII for when you really need maximum bass impact, incredibly useful in larger rooms. Also, the acoustically-optimized wooden enclosure is designed to resist distortion at high output levels, greatly enhancing sound quality even at extreme levels.

Easy to integrate

It's easy to add the DXS12mkII powered subwoofer to your DRX loudspeaker system, or any other powered system for that matter. Dual XLR inputs let you connect to your mixer, crossover system, or main speaker throughputs, and parallel XLR outputs make it easy to add additional DXS subwoofers for even more ground-shaking bass reinforcement. On previous models, these outputs passed full-range audio from the inputs to any connected speakers. On the DXS12mkII, the outputs have a switchable highpass filter, so all the crossover work is done within the subwoofer. With the filter engaged, connected full-range powered speakers can use their full output power to amplify only those frequencies that the DXS12mkII is not. This configuration delivers better overall projection and a more detailed soundstage across the full frequency spectrum.

Ideal for gigging musicians, school sound systems, and houses of worship

You'll be amazed at the rock-solid bass and consistent performance you get from Yamaha's DXS12mkII powered sub. Housed in a durable wooden enclosure, the DXS12mkII subwoofer represents Yamaha's latest sound reinforcement technology. The DXS12mkII packs maximum performance into an efficient design that's perfect for the gigging musician, school sound systems, and houses of worship. And thanks to the proprietary DSP processing, the DXS12mkII delivers the kind incredibly deep bass you'd expect from a much larger unit. Take it from Sweetwater: Whether you're playing pre-recorded music or performing for a crowd, you'll love the rich low end the Yamaha DXS12mkII powered subwoofer adds to your sound system.

Tight and punchy

Paired with QSC K12.2s, these subs sounded amazing. Absolutely love the protective covers that never need to be removed.

The Little 12 That Could!

Picked up a pair of these Yamaha DXS12mkII's for drum monitors- overkill for sure, but what the hey!! Paired them with a couple of high powered 8" tops sitting left and right of my throne. I don't like in ear monitors and with the subs facing forward, they add to the mix and, somehow, I am not fighting feedback! Maybe it's due to the bandpass design? My kick batter is a simple single ply with a light pillow touching the batter with an internal Beta 91A. I've got four 18's out frt and these aren't going to out compete those, but the DXS12mkII's certainly hold their own with clean, clear bass. They are light and compact, and gets done what needs to be done!!!

Amazing bass definition

I was in need of some subs for my live room/rehearsal space, which is pretty small to begin with didn't want to get 15"s but wanted to cover my lowend so I looked into 12" subs. I got some Headrush 108's 8" frfr I was using for monitors, they work great for what I needed but wanted more bass. After searching Sweetwater they had these Yamahas that had built in crossover and plenty of power in a tight little package. I was concerned that they were not gonna be big enough to put out the lowend I was looking for, boy was I wrong! I was amazed at the clear lows with great definition. I put them through the torture test incase I needed to return them, I couldent get them to clip, bottom out or distort they just kept gettin louder! I had to stop when my grandkids were screaming "papa your scaring us!" The neighbors got a love me now. I still can't believe there's a 12" speaker in there, maybe I only needed one I might of over did it for my small apartment studio/rehearsal space, nah.. The mkii subs are far better than I exspected, got a great deal as always from Sweetwater and my sales rep Jonathan Appleton great customer service as always!

Amazing for a 12"

I honestly wasn't expecting the low end to be represented as well as it is given that it only goes down to about 42hz at -10db. So I'm thinking it'll be a little weaker on the very low end, but I was surprised when my reference tracks came in very clear and tight on the low low frequencies. For small gigs, this is definitely the way to go. Nobody's going to be on the dance floor going "Oh I can't dance to this, I can't even feel anything below 40hz..." For a super small setup 1 subwoofer does great. I can imagine two for a slightly larger setup would be very nice yet still very portable. Not only that, but a great deal cheaper than the QSC KS112 that I was looking at. Paired with the DXR tops, and you're pretty covered for an easily portable PA that can cover a 100 person dance floor pretty reasonably well! You won't be shaking anyones dentures out anytime soon, but they'll for sure feel it!

Practical

This sub is a very practical option for smaller live sound needs. Campgrounds, anniversaries, small indoor corporate functions. They look good and sound good. They DON'T give you chest thumping bass 100 feet back. They simply give sound where sound is needed and allow they common listener to just listen and enjoy. If you're looking for chest thumping bass, these are not for you...why? Because they're 12" subwoofers. That's why.. Look at what you're needs are. Are you a country band that plays private parties? Or a jazz quartet? 3 piece rock band that plays the pub down the road and the odd wedding and private party? If so, then YES this sub might be something to strongly consider. Are you in a metal band that's looking to tear faces off, and things are so loud at ur show people don't socialize, then NO dont' buy this sub... You'll only be disappointed and likely over work it and ruin it. The covers are great and this sub does what its expected to do for a 12" 70lb box.
