Decades of Digital Delay Optimized for Today's Rigs

When Sweetwater guitarists first got their hands on Strymon's DIG digital delay, they were blown away by its period and tone accuracy, channeling the color and quirks of '80s adaptive delta modulation to squeaky-clean modern 24-bit/96kHz DSP and more. Never one to rest on their laurels, Strymon saw ample opportunity to improve on the original DIG design with several improvements both on and under the surface. To start, the addition of a Tone knob provides a new level of surgical sonic shaping not present in the original, great when needing to fine-tune your sound with a touch of darkness or brightness. Quality-of-life upgrades in the form of a JFET input circuit and an ARM DSP chip improve sound quality with a significant increase in power and clarity, respectively, giving the DIG V2 a thoroughly premium feel with sonic results fit for any studio or stage imaginable. Cascading lines, dynamic ping-pong delays, and more are yours for the taking with the Strymon DIG V2.

Choose your classic digital delay character

With three distinct voicings onboard, the Strymon DIG V2 offers a ton of digital delay character to choose from. When digital delay really took off in the '80s, there were several rival technologies. The DIG's ADM (Adaptive Delta Modulation) and 12-bit PCM modes capture the two most prominent of these sounds, allowing you to perfectly re-create classic digital delay types. There's also a pristine and highly dynamic modern 24-bit/96kHz delay onboard, and when you stack up two delay engines — configurable in series, parallel, or ping-pong arrangements — and add delay line modulation, you can conjure up decades of iconic effects.

Go deep with 12 powerful parameter controls

To save processing power, many highly nuanced effects emulations offer only limited parameter control, but not the Strymon DIG V2. This pedal lets you dive deep, with six top-level parameter controls and an additional six you can access by depressing both footswitches. These knobs let you quickly dial in both delay lines, change the overall configuration, filter delays, adjust delay time subdivisions, and more. The DIG V2 introduces a handy Tone control to the set, which is capable of fine-tuning your delay tone with a counterclockwise high cut or clockwise low cut. You can get even more real-time control over your effects by hooking up an expression pedal, which provides on-the-fly control over any parameter you choose, plus you can recall a favorite setting instantly via a simple external trigger pedal.

Under-the-hood improvements provide unparalleled performance

While the cosmetic and sonic improvements are easily seen, further inspection of the DIG V2 reveals several changes to its core for an even more premium playing experience. To start, Strymon loaded the DIG with a top-quality JFET input circuit. The result? Enhanced responsiveness, dynamics, and tailor-made feel for gigging performers and touring pros. Swapping between mono and stereo modes is as easy as flicking a rear-panel switch, with the option to now control the DIG via an expression pedal or MultiSwitch Plus. Perhaps best of all, a new ARM DSP chip significantly increases processing power while decreasing energy consumption for a clearer and more accurate tone.

DIG rocks

This is such a beautiful sounding delay. Strymon is the best when it comes to delay and reverb pedals, and the digital delay on my Timeline sounds great, but having the DSP solely dedicated to this one type of delay really makes a difference. It's lush to pristine. Absolutely studio grade. MIDI control is so key, locking right up to MIDI clock.

Strymon quality, V2 improvements put it back on the top shelf.....

Only downside I have to this unit and actually many other delay units of rather high priced quality is the utter lack of a ms readout, that is something I need hands down and it seems less and less units have them. I have considered getting another Time Line or Eventide delay. Getting old but still state of the art and the readout screen. This unit is certainly amazing quality and versatile tweaking adjustments and if you know Strymon you should know there are many secondary edit functions to expand the surface view of the pedal. This one allows you to do that tied dual delay thing with one following and slaving time to the other, OR, you can unlock the two side and make two independent delay lines, tie the repeats or make them separate. Split to true stereo L and R with a delay on each side running parallel, tie them in series, ping pong them side to side. Excellent buffer in these units. Many adjustments to tweak the delays, reduced bit quality or pristine, fantastic thick lush chorus modulation can help create huge washes of ambient stuff if that is a flavor you want to try. I typically like a shorter thickening delay on one side and a long trail distant repeat on the other maybe set in ping pong. Only draw back I have to say is the lack of ms readout, I mean this is 2023 let's not regress back to knob turning and guessing times, or how about not using tuners any more, pleeeeeassssee add the ms readouts!!! Both this, the Volante and and Capistan would be just out of the park units if they had a ms readout, the DIG needs it!
