A Great Introduction to the 7-string Electric Guitar

Based on Ibanez's RG series 7-string models, the GRG7221M is a great way for beginners to experience their unmatched speed, playability, and expression. This extended range guitar's poplar body delivers a tonally balanced sound with plenty of resonance, while its twin humbuckers kick out a range of furious tones. The GRG7221M's hardtail bridge supplies you with maximum tuning stability, while its maple neck and fingerboard provide the kind of effortless playability that put Ibanez on the metal map. Aggressive-looking black hardware completes the package. Want to take your playing to the next level? Get a GRG7221M.

A duo of Infinity R pickups gives you massive tonal range

Loaded with a duo of Infinity R humbuckers, the Ibanez GRG7221M yields a range of impressive tones. The neck position humbucker is voiced for warmer, richer tone, while the bridge humbucker is a brilliant lead pickup: vibrant, yet snarling with an enhanced midrange output when you push it. If you're after maximum tonal tenacity, then the Ibanez GRG7221M will give your amplifier what you need.

Smooth-playing, fast-action neck enhances your speed

The guitarists at Sweetwater will tell you: a guitar is only as playable as its neck. Good thing the Ibanez GRG7221M has a smooth and fast-playing maple neck. This comfortable neck is capped by a maple fingerboard with a super-flat 15.7" radius and 24 jumbo frets, giving you the agility to execute fast single-note runs with ease.

Enjoy the tuning stability benefits of a hardtail bridge

Dive-bombs can be fun, but many guitarists prefer the absolute stability of a hardtail bridge — legions of ace guitarists won't go anywhere near a whammy bar. If you're in this camp, then the Ibanez GRG7221M is your kind of axe. The GRG7221M's fixed bridge anchors the strings, giving you a rock-solid platform for your music.

Ibanez GRG7221M Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Poplar body exhibits impressive balance and resonance
  • Infinity R humbuckers deliver a range of furious high-output tones
  • Smooth-playing maple neck and fingerboard lend themselves to fast action
  • Hardtail bridge/tailpiece for maximum tuning stability
  • Black hardware offers an aggressive look

Exactly what I wanted

As said above, This was exactly what I wanted

How low can you go?!?!

This guitar is a beauty. Just based on looks alone she is HAWT! But looks aside, once I received the guitar and began playing just the very nature of having the extended range helped me to experiment with sounds, tones, and techniques I've only just begun to use. The ease of playability inspired me TO PLAY. A great value and another HOME RUN from Ibanez. Keep socking 'em out of the park y'sll!!!

Straight MADNESS

I play on the bit heavier side of Rock music. I was looking into 7 strings after playing my buddy's Ibanez Prestige and falling in love with it. I didn't want to wait and save up for something I wasn't too sure about (because all ive ever owned were 6 string guitars) so I found this beast. The maple neck, the beautiful metallic finish and the confortabilty. Once I plugged it in to my Orange OR15 I was BLOWN AWAY by the sound.... It doesn't look like much, a bit stripped down (which I like) but you can easily get addicted to 7 strings from purchasing this one as your first. And if your a total tone snob you can always put in some Bareknuckle pickups in this and make it sound like a $1k Ibanez. Overall great guitar for the price. Can't beat it

Great neck, excellent pickups

I love my Ibanez GRG7221M 7-string. The maple fingerboard is comfortable and responsive, and the pickups sound great clean or overdriven. This is my first 7-string guitar, and I'm excited to explore its possibilities. I'm a guitar teacher and gigging musician for 25+ years. I've received several compliments about the look and sound of the guitar. I've always been a fan of the flatter, wider Ibanez neck design, and the metallic blue color of this guitar, coupled with the maple neck is a real standout. I would recommend purchasing this guitar from Sweetwater and my excellent sales rep, Josh Gumbert.

Excellent action and sound

I recently purchased this guitar to teach some of my students who want to work on 7-string stuff. It is my first 7-string guitar, and I could not be happier! The neck is Ibanez quality in an affordable package. Slim profile, good-feeling wood, with ease of playability. I have come to expect great necks from Ibanez. I own three Ibanez guitars, and I recently gave a fourth one to a student. Their neck is just a comfortable, playable neck. This guitar, at under 200 dollars, is worth the money. The Ibanez Infinity-R pickups are good-sounding, yielding a nice strat-like tone when clean, and responsive when overdriven. Give the bridge pickup some juice, and it will respond! I would even call it "nasty", or "dirty, dirty". If you are looking at a 7-string to try something new or different, this is an excellent first choice. The price is right, the guitar is solid, and Sweetwater's customer service and support are second to none. Thanks, Bob Chapin and Mandy Kawa for taking the time to check in with me on purchases, and for always answering all my questions like real pros!
