Blown Away, Quite Literally

This sub pulls it weight. I mean, it weighs over 30 pounds (which is GREAT, very quality materials I'd say), but it really PRODUCES. I didn't think the 8" woofer would have the power it does (over a 10" per say), but my volume isn't even half and my home studio FEELS this. Granted, I'm in a small 150sq/ft space so there's not a whole lot of room to cover, but my mixes have never sounded better. Taking the load off of my Focal Alpha 50 monitors has allowed them to show their true colors in the mid range. I never knew what I was missing out on when it came to mixing without a subwoofer, but 3 years later I made the plunge, and now I can never go back. The Yamaha HS8S has blown me away in terms of sound quality. The punchiness in the kicks when mixing rock/pop or the deep sine-bass/808s when mixing edm/hip hop, it's an all around BEAST. I can hear frequencies below 30hz easily, though not super LOUD, they are definitely present. I don't understand the negative reviews about the sub blowing on them, or not being what they expected. This thing cranks louder than I'll ever need it to, and really does go LOW (though I haven't done a true frequency test on it). I've never felt so satisfied with my purchase. $ well spent! You really can't go wrong with Yamaha. Only downside is no option for bypass pedal, but I don't really mind.

All thanks to Sweetwater Sales Engineer Ryan Sloan by the way! I inquired with him about which subwoofer would best suit my needs, and based on his own experiences he was able to recommend me the HS8S. Ryan has never failed to help me out during the years I've been buying at Sweetwater, and my dad for the however many more. With the knowledge he has, he's never failed to make me feel confident in my purchases. The Sweetwater difference is real, and my studio's difference is REAL. 11/10 experience here!

Set it at 12:00 & let it rip

Picked up a couple of Yamaha HS7s but wanted extended range. The HS8S fit the bill.
Most subs have crossovers, but having the ability to shelve the frequencies at a happy place was as easy at setting all the speakers to 12 O'clock.
My Focusrite is my volume knob now.

yamaha hs8s sub

well i love some good bottom---i have the hs8 yamaha monitiors very nice and smooth speakers--- nice low end as monitiors go--now adding the hs8s sub well you cant leave home with out it. wow set that sub at 80 hertz and nearly dime the sub. what a beautiful sound nice mean smooth low end that has the port blowin like a turbo-- the sub takes over for the lows and give those sweet yamaha 8 monitiors lots of room to take care of those mids and highs. the sound is to dye for. nearly diming the sub 81/2 to 9ine was the ticket at 80 hertz. the speakers blended perfectly. no heat from the sub it stayed cooler than the monitiors-- with a treated room these will work well--- i did here a bit of low end pop at volume at 9. but you need that much for mixing. but over all great bass-- played the low distortion stuff smooth

Low boy goes BURRRRRRRRR

Not the most nessesary thing for mixing and mastering as not everyone has a sub woofer, but it's still pretty cool and sounds great and helps get the client's energy up when playing back their song.

First Sub, Last Sub

This is admittedly my first Sub, but damn does this thing work. Super high clarity, great overall volume, and man does it rattle the room.
