Great Basic MIDI Controller. No frills and works

Got this to replace a old controller that was just developing more and more problems. Personally all the faders and knobs on other controllers are just in my way most of the time. I got a dedicated surface for that purpose and a MIDI drum set, so I don't need it on a key board. I want they keyboard to play some pads, maybe trigger some small stuff. For that purpose this controller is perfect. It's inexpensive, full size keys and has the basic transport type controls. The documentation covers all different type of DAWs not just one or two like most of manufacturers do. For playing keyboard the keys are full size and feel great. They are not weighted keys but not expecting that on budget controller either.

GREAT NO FRILLS CONTROLLER!

I've tried other controllers in the past. Novation. Even used a Yamaha MX49. Seems like getting things working in my DAW was tricky or they stopped working. I decided to just stick with other things for control over faders and knobs and do a no frills controller. Got this one on a B-Stock deal. Came with Bit Wig 8-Track too!

Set up in the DAW wasn't straight forward. I did go tot he site, create an account, download the drivers for my DAW and OS, installed and rebooted and everything was a go! Transport control and volume all worked great!

Keys feel great and honestly feel better than what was on my MX49.

If you want a no frills, easy to use controller with a no fuss set up - this is the one!

Does it's job well

I wanted to add a simple midi keyboard with a small footprint to my studio, one that I could access and play quickly. Set up and integration with Logic was a quick "plug-n-play "process with the GX49. Fits on my desk perfectly and the DAW "controls surface" feature has helped my workflow. The GX49 is exactly what it claims to be - nothing more, NOTHING LESS! A great value at the price.

Basic, well built, good feeling controller

Bought the Nektar GX49 so I could put it on a pull-out shelf under my SONAR pc desk. 49 keys fits well and is plenty for playing most parts into the DAW so 'feel' was my concern. This has full size keys, action is between typical and firm, proper key travel, pretty much all I was hoping for. The keys look a LITTLE like waterfall keys but have a tiny lip that sticks over so they are not really good for organ-type palm glisses, not sure why they added that little lip but that's a picky complaint. Overall, I'm VERY happy with this keyboard! I've used other 61 key controllers on stage and the build quality and feel of this instrument is plenty good enough that I would be glad to use the 61 key version on stage.

Very Pleased

I'm very pleased with this keyboard. I mainly play classical piano - lots of early music (Bach, etc). I decided it would be fun to try something different, and start dabbling in software synthesizers - something really new to me. There are the keyboardists who want a keyboard that feels like a piano, and there are those who want the light touch of a synthesizer. I have an acoustic piano, which I love, but I'm not addicted to a particular touch. A piano feels the way it does because it is a physical instrument. For synthesizer, why not have something that feels like an electronic instrument? I purposely sought out a keyboard with synth action, because the goal for me is to play synthesizers on my computer.

I'm very happy with the GX49. I love the touch (a little adjustment needed, coming from piano) and feel of the keyboard. I am also pleased with the ease of use: plug it in, let it install, start playing. It is very easy to use and it works great with Cubase, Bitwig (which it comes with) and all the various software synthesizers I have tried so far.

I purposely wanted a very streamlined keyboard. I don't need drum pads or lots of knobs and faders. Truthfully, as a newbie, I was intimidated by such things. With a few weeks experience now, I can say I'm still happy with my choice, though I can see why some people might want the additional knobs. I'm perfectly happy using my mouse to adjust synth settings on my computer, and this keyboard is small enough to easily fit on my desk right along side my mouse (so really the additional knobs wouldn't really save me any time or effort). This keyboard does have an assignable potentiometer (knob?) and a mod wheel that can be assigned to various functions. I've tried using them (and they work fine) but I don't really use them in practice. So this keyboard fits me just right.

49 keys is plenty. All of Bach's Well Tempered Clavier book 1 was written for a 49 key keyboard just like this (C to C, 4 octaves). Good enough for him is good enough for me.

To sum up, the touch is great, the ease of use is great (plug and play), the size and weight are great. The aesthetics of it are great. It's exactly what I wanted and I would happily recommend it to anyone else interested in using a keyboard to control music software, regardless of skill level.
