Reliable, Accurate, and Comfortable Headphones

You demand a lot from pro headphones, and the KRK KNS 8402 closed-back monitor headphones deliver. Voiced to remain true to the character of KRK's class-leading studio monitors, the 8402s are designed to be a true reference monitor, allowing you to record and mix the same way you would using speakers. Exceedingly accurate, the 8402s have a natural, wide frequency response with a silky, articulate high end, as well as extended low-frequency definition that ensures that the bass component of your music is accurately reproduced. And the robust dynamic range exhibited by the KRK KNS 8402s serve up consistent low-distortion detail and clarity.

Keep your focus on the music

Traditionally, having to switch from speakers to headphones has represented a disconnect of sorts in the recording process. You often find that those comfortable, ruggedly built headphones you love bear little sonic resemblance to your trusted monitor speakers. Drawing upon their 20-plus years of experience in studio sound, KRK has solved this dilemma with their KNS series headphones. Happily, going to headphones is no longer a jarring experience, allowing you to keep your attention on the music!

Supreme comfort

The KRK KNS 8402s usher in a new standard in headphone comfort — even over extended periods of use. The 8402's circumaural design employs high-tech memory foam ear cushions, allowing them to conform to your ear to help ensure a comfortable fit during marathon sessions. KRK has thoughtfully spec'd these 'phones with replaceable parts, including a detachable high-durability oxygen-free copper cable with an in-line volume control. Delivering accuracy, comfort, and reliability, these puppies are designed from the ground up for pro monitoring so you can trust your headphones as never before.

Pretty Good !

So far they seem to be really similar to the previous version. They are pretty comfortable and I can use them for long periods of time without getting tired. I'm not sure I would use these for mixing but they are definitely great for tracking stuff.

Good enough, but ...

No issue with the sound quality. I bought these to use with practice amps and Fender Mustang Micro and LT25. Sound with the micro amp improved dramatically. However there's a design defect with these. The volume control you can add between the main patch cord and the headset is dodgy and borders on useless. The problem is the connector and the engineering behind it. Big issue therein is the weak connection with that pin that inserts into the headset. It's not a firm/true connection once made. Slight movements WILL make the audio cut out if you're using the volume control. What's worse is the non-slip rubber used to encase the wiring is going to snag on everything (because it always does) and ensuing tug will loosen the connection and cut your signal. And that's if you can get the signal in the first place. It took me 3 or 4 tries to connect it, and once established, the first movement of my head with the set on caused it to cut out. The main patch cord attaches the same way, but for some reason it's a snug fit. (Maybe the volume slider was just manufactured poorly, but if that's the case, who wants to shop for defective merchandise?)

The bad engineering is partly this: A tiny barb is what attempts to lock the 1/16th inch plug in the headset socket, and that barb is immediately vulnerable to shear, and eventually vulnerable to just plain ol' use wear.

Notice that the $ set doesn't come with the volume slider. If your heart is set on budget-like KRK's get the $. The extra $$ for the slider is wasting your money.
