Arturia Takes KeyLab to the Next Level!

With its rock-solid build quality, superior ergonomics and expressivity, and the sheer control it provides over your virtual instruments and DAW software, the Arturia KeyLab MkII 61 has raised the bar for professional MIDI controller keyboards. Onstage or in the studio, you need a keyboard controller that gets the job done. Unlike many keyboard controllers constructed entirely of plastic, the KeyLab MkII features a lightweight yet rugged aluminum chassis that can stand up to the most grueling tour schedules.

Arturia is also a top software company, so who better to decide what goes into a keyboard designed to control software? The KeyLab MkII's superb aftertouch-sensitive keybed (the same one used in Arturia’s flagship MatrixBrute) feels incredible under your fingers and responds beautifully when you're executing fast staccato lines, trills, and repetitions. Equipped with 16 RGB backlit performance pads, nine large faders, nine rotary encoders, four CV outputs, five expression control inputs, and a killer software bundle headlined by Analog Lab, the Arturia KeyLab MkII 61 puts everything you need to create music right at your fingertips.

Masterful construction

We'll just say it: most keyboard controllers are made of plastic — and there's nothing wrong with that. Modern plastics are strong and lightweight. But there's a reason most airplane fuselages are made of aluminum: it's stronger while remaining lightweight. That's why Arturia uses it for the frame of their KeyLab MkII controllers. And in honor of the many vintage synth sounds you'll be playing with your new KeyLab MkII, Arturia gave it real wood side panels and the same gleaming aluminum wheels as the MiniBrute 2. You're going to look awesome onstage!

Masterful software integration

KeyLab MkII provides a streamlined workflow solution for controlling your DAW, Analog Lab, or any MIDI-compatible instrument. The DAW Commands center gives you deep control of your software via the use of DAW-specific magnetic overlays. Working with the included Ableton Live Lite? Use the Live overlay. Switching to Cubase? Simply swap in the Cubase overlay! And thanks to the KeyLab MkII's smart, efficient logic, you can now access Analog Lab sound categories directly from your controller. Need a piano sound? Press the Piano button!

Masterful expressive performance

Arturia's KeyLab MkII 61 is way more than a MIDI controller — it's an expressive instrument for the professional keyboardist. Equipped with channel aftertouch, the keybed is perfect for adding modulation to synth sounds while playing two-handed parts, while the nine large onboard faders give you legit drawbar control over your organ patches. Grab one of the nine rotary encoders for a highpass filter sweep. Use the 16 velocity-sensitive backlit RGB performance pads to bang out drum and percussion parts. Sustain, Expression, and three Aux pedal inputs give you unprecedented creative modulation possibilities.

Masterful connectivity

With the KeyLab MkII 61, Arturia drew on its masterful analog synth modeling experience to think outside the box. In addition to 5-pin DIN MIDI In and Out connectors, they equipped the KeyLab MkII with four CV jacks to connect to traditional hardware analog synth gear. CV connectivity is an innovation in the MIDI controller category; and at Sweetwater, we expect we'll be seeing a lot more of this going forward.

Amazing midi controller

Amazing midi controller for the price and build quality is amazing, built to last. S/O to my sales engineer Jeff Bohan for the awsome service highly recommended him for any musical needs.

I’ve lost a lot of weight…..

My favorite instrument weighs 425 lbs. without the bench, pedals, and two 122 Leslie speakers. Sadly these have
not left the house in over a decade. Now they don't have to because of my Arturia KeyLab61, iPad mini 6 and IK Multimedia/Hammond Suzuki B3X.
I have the sound I need at the weight I can carry. The 61 plays well, nice keyboard feel, sliders and pots are substantial and sturdy, and with the metal frame the unit gives off a quality build.
Very glad I chose this.

Rock solid

I'm a few weeks in. I would definitely recommend this board.

It's everything you need in a controller. Menus are clear and organized and mostly unnecessary.

Keys feel good. Drum pads are a little stiffer than Akai/MPC but not a problem. Love the metal pitch and mod wheels. The board is heavier than controller I've owned but that reassures me that it's well built. Not too heavy. Love that there's a bunch of pedal jacks. Played a little with the CV/modular jacks but only to check that they function. Seem fine.

It just works and it feels great. Got the white and I'm glad I did. Everything else is black and this board just pops in my studio.

Punches way above its weight class

Wow... feel and response are not what I was expecting based on the price and the tonal possibilities are endless. Was a little apprehensive purchasing a keyboard that I hadn't touched but once out and setup (which was a little more complicated that I had expected) this is is a total monster. Perfect for the studio and live too!

I Love This Controller

The KeyLab 61 mkII has to be one of the best midi keyboard controllers ever made. The keybed is the same as in the Arturia MatrixBrute. This feels like a real instrument. It's gorgeous to look at, slim, low profile, white. The case is almost all metal, aluminum I think. It's solid, heavy, not like plastic. My last keyboard was a Nektar Lx61+, which is good, but not in the same league as the KeyLab. If you're like me, and want to use soft synths and pianos (there are so many today!) and also want to feel like you're playing a real synth, look no further. Can't decide whether to go with an Arturia KeyLab mkII or a Native Instruments Komplete controller? Not to worry. The KeyLab runs Native Instruments, Komplete, and NKS compatible software just as well as it controls Arturia. I also control U-he synths (which sound amazing) with this. Just a few midi learn buttons and sliders is all you need. I use both Analog Lab and Komplete Kontrol just fine.

This works very well with Studio One 5 Pro, but you need to set it up right. It's hard to find good directions, so here is a summery: 1. Go to Arturia's Midi Control Center and select Studio One as the DAW in Device Setting. You'll download this app when you register the keyboard or it comes with Analog Lab. I forgot which. 2. In Studio One 5, Configure External Device, you need to set up two controllers. Go to Mackie, select Mackie Control, and receive from MIDIIN2 (KeyLab mkII) and send to MIDIOUT2 (KeyLab mkII), 3. Then also add a new keyboard, name it, and select receive from KeyLab mkII and send to none. Good luck!

If you want the best, spend a little more and get a real instrument, with the feel of a real synth. Plus it comes with AnalogLab and Piano 6. Some of the Analog Lab synths are great, but others are just OK sound wise. Still, worth the money. Get some U-he synths if you want top sound quality for a decent price. Izotope Iris 2 sounds great too.
