The Fishman Loubox Artist is an industry standout

Larry Fishman has developed a reputation for designing some of the best amplification devices in the field. Fishman amplifiers are known not only for their exceptional amplified tone but also for their durability and reliability — traits that have placed Fishman products in the hands of some of the most renowned players on the planet. In the Fishman Loudbox Artist, he has designed an amp that is powerful yet portable enough for effortless transport. Countless acoustic performers here at Sweetwater rely on Fishman Loudbox Artists — get one of your own, and you’ll understand why.

Unforgettable design and function

The Fishman Loudbox Artist sports a tan/brown motif that’s easy on the eyes and compliments acoustic instruments better than basic black. Its front-panel display makes the controls easy to find, read, and adjust. A straightforward control set means you can play relaxed and confident. Each channel accommodates both 1/4" instrument inputs as well as balanced XLR mic inputs, and each one includes Gain, Low, Mid, High, and Anti-feedback knobs, in addition to Pad and Phase switches. You also get controls for the Fishman Loudbox Artist’s built-in effects, tweeter level, phantom power, and more, plus a master volume knob for setting the amp’s overall level. Plug in, dial in, and play with the kind of rich, real acoustic tone that makes for a memorable live performance.

Bluetooth wireless connectivity

The Fishman Loudbox Artist has always been a feature-packed powerhouse, and thanks to the addition of Bluetooth, it’s more powerful than ever. A good amp for an electric cello!!

As an amateur builder of musical instruments, I thought building an electric cello would be a nice challenge. Since I design the builds as well, I did the same with the cello. An Underwood acoustic bass pickup was used. Since the installation of the pickup were not done to any recognized standard, I just assumed either there would be no or just bad tone when completed.
With the build was complete, I played the instrument thru my studio monitoring system and was surprised by the tone, not good, but not bad either. The same results with a guitar tube amp.

I contacted my sales rep at Sweetwater, John Castro, who guided my thru some possibilities for a good amp. The final choice was the Fishman Loudbox Artist BT 120. Just out of the box, the tone dramatically improved. After some experimentation with an additional preamp, what sounds the best is just this Fishman amp. The tone of the cello is open and warm through the range of the instrument. No distortion at all. The EQ on this amp is musical and small adjustments help the tone. The on board reverb is very good. Just play a note, and the reverb effect sounds like an acoustic cello has just been played.

Keep in mind that the Underwood pickup has no preamp. There is a preamp built into the Fishman amp with the use of a 5M Ohm pot at the input.

This review may not help a guitarist make a choice for amps, but if you play an electric cello, for home practice, or a small venue, this is the amp!

And my thanks to John for his guidance.

Great and great company.

Great little amp. Perfect combination of size, controls, effects, DI and so on. And plenty loud. Need more then DI out to FOH or PA.

The best next part. Mine is 12 years old and gig worn to the max. Started acting up. Sent it the head and they sent me a new one 50 bucks flat fee. Plus the shipping to Fishman. Got it all put back together. Works perfect again. Ready for the next decade.
Music background: Acoustic performance, recording enthusiast.

All you need !

So, I have been using mine for over 10 years and other than the material peeling off around the handle and edges it is fantastic ! I use mine with a T.C. Helicon acoustic harmony pedal which lets me combine guitar and vocals into one xlr out which feeds channel one. This leaves channel 2 for a second vocal microphone and can run a second guitar thru a reverb pedal into the aux input and it sounds great. Sometimes I will use the aux input to run a Cajon with a bass drum mic which also works great with a 1/4 inch to xlr adapter.
Then when its time to play in a full band with an electric I run my vocals thru channel 1 and my pedal board into channel 2 and use it as my monitor and feed the board thru the di on the back.
Had the big Marshalls, mesas, fenders, big sound systems, mixing boards, monitors etc…now that stuff just collects dust.
I will be using it tomorrow with a front porch jam during Mardi Gras with my daughter and I singing and my son on cajon. I will however face it towards me and use a pair of powered speakers coming out of the back xlr to face the party in the front yard and the folks passing on the street.
So all of this is coming out of one little Fishman Artist with the controls right beside me…AWSOME !
Music background: Just like many others, played because I love to see other people enjoying it.

Quality and performance

I've played Fishman amps in the past but they were very heavy. The Loudbox Artist is very lightweight and seems to give me exactly what I need and has all the options I really like.
Music background: 64 years of being a drummer and 25 years of being a fiddle player.

Great Amp

Use mine to go direct out to a PA. Fantastic acoustic amp and no longer have a need for any pedals with the exception of a tuner. Have used it for two years and have zero regrets.

Want to make your guitar sound its best? Take it from the lifelong performers at Sweetwater and check out Fishman. If you've bought an acoustic-electric guitar, there's a good chance it came with Fishman electronics, but it's easy enough to upgrade your favorite instrument too - just ask the pros in Sweetwater's Guitar Repair Shop. Do you perform? Are you a singer/songwriter? We'd love to turn you on to Fishman's Loudbox amps and amazing pedals. But Fishman isn't limited to acoustic electronics. Many of us have tricked out our electric guitars with Fishman Fluence pickups and TriplePlay wireless MIDI systems too.
