Yamaha MG12XU Analog Mixer at a Glance:
  • D-PRE discrete Class-A mic preamps deliver clean and natural sound

  • EQ and highpass filters allow for effective sound-shaping
  • Built-in SPX digital effects add polish and professionalism
  • High quality op-amp ensures transparent sound reproduction
D-PRE discrete Class-A mic preamps deliver clean and natural sound

Nobody wants to hear mics that are plugged into thin, distorted, or underpowered preamps. MG Series mixing consoles employ Yamaha's transparent D-PRE preamps, which provide more power with lower impedance, delivering natural-sounding bass and smooth highs. D-PREs simply sound good - without hyping any specific elements of your mix. The D-PRE's pure sound will ensure that you won't need to spend hours EQ-ing just to get a barely-acceptable sound, like you would with low-quality mic preamps.

One-knob compressors provide easy-to-use dynamics control

When you're in the midst of a live event, you don't have time to tweak a large number of complex outboard units. To resolve this issue, the Yamaha MG Series of analog mixers features simple, time-saving one-knob compressors. Simply twist a single rotary control and you can dial in livelier guitars, punchier basses, tighter drums, and well-defined vocals.

EQ and highpass filter allow for effective sound-shaping

Whether you're tweaking your sound to perfection or whether you're removing some unwanted frequencies, effective and powerful EQ is necessary for building a successful mix. Featuring equalizers on all mono channels, the Yamaha MG Series mixing consoles provide you with ample control over the tonal balance of your mix. Additionally, a highpass filter allows you to get rid of any mud that might be present in your mix by eliminating unwanted low-frequency noise.

Built-in SPX digital effects add polish and professionalism

In order to add that final glue and polish to your mix, the Yamaha MG Series mixing consoles provides you with a comprehensive suite of 24 editable digital effects. Based on Yamaha's acclaimed SPX digital multi-effect processor, the MG Series delivers high-quality reverb, delay, chorus, phaser, flanger, tremolo, and auto-wah, in addition to distortion, pitch effects, and more.

High quality op-amp ensures transparent sound reproduction

Here at Sweetwater, we know that few things will kill tone as quickly as sub-par op-amps. The Yamaha MG Series utilizes new, high-quality MG01 op-amps, ensuring that your mix sounds its best. When designing these op-amps, Yamaha focused on sound quality, rather than prioritizing electrical design and efficiency. Yamaha has always strived to deliver the purest possible signal instead of imparting their "signature" to your sound, and the MG Series is no exception. You can count on a transparent, natural, and articulate sound when you mix through a MG Series analog mixer.

Yamaha MG12XU Analog Mixer Features:
  • D-PRE mic preamps deliver clean, transparent, and natural sound
  • 3-band EQ on all mono channels for sound-shaping
  • 1-knob compressors provide straightforward dynamics control
  • Class-compliant USB 2.0 for recording and playback with computers and tablets
  • SPX effect processors provide you with a comprehensive suite of 24 effects
  • Pad switch on mono inputs for managing loud sources
  • Metal chassis for durability
Deliver a clean and professional-sounding mix with the Yamaha MG12XU analog mixer!

Yamaha MG12XU - Nice Mixer

Versatile and well built. An excellent value.

I’ve owned the Yamaha MG12XU for a few years. I bought it for live gigs and it’s great for that – the preamps, comps, eq’s, and effects are all decent for a mixer in this price range - but it’s also working out quite well in my home studio.

My audio interface’s Line Outs are already routed to a summing mixer, and so I ran the Headphone/Line Out from my RME interface to the MG12XU’s Line In on Ch 9/10 (unbal) and connected my studio monitors to the mixer’s Monitor Out. That way I can easily control the volume with the Monitor Level knob. I can also connect a cd player or a smartphone to the RCA jacks on the mixer’s Ch 11/12 to play or stream music in the studio and to audition potential reference tracks.

I haven’t used the USB or the MG12XU’s audio interface. About the only time I might do that would be to broadcast a gig online, but the way I do that now is by running mics and guitar to the mixer and then running one of the mixer’s output pairs (Group 1-2, Stereo Out) to a portable audio interface connected to a laptop. And though there are no Inserts, I can route an input channel to Aux 1, out to a compressor in the rack and back in to the mixer on an open channel. And with the Aux 2/FX Sends and the FX Rtn Fader, it’s pretty easy to dial in one of the Reverbs.

Bottom line, the MG12XU is a great little mixer.

A Truly Great Mixer

My previous mixer which I liked crapped out on me. My Sweetwater sales engineer, Alan Gribble, recommended that I move up to the Yamaha MG12XU. This mixer has proved to be a great mixer. The quality of construction and layout is really good but to my surprise the sound quality was a major improvement. I could not be happier. Thanks Sweetwater for a great recommendation for a great reasonably price analog mixer.

One of the best support during purchases

Alex took time and discussed features of the mixer before I purchased. Worked as described and the follow up customer satisfaction call was appreciated.

Awesome mixer!

I love my Yamaha mixer! Didn't take long to get it set up and connected to my computer and speakers. I really like the slides as opposed to the knobs. Easy to use. I am using it with my home karaoke system and may even take my system on the road and volunteer for charity drives. Friends with a guitar or keyboard will also add to the fun. Thanks Sweetwater!

Will do the Job

After using a cheaper mix board for years this upgrade makes life so much better. It is really very easy to use once I got through the basic learning curve. And it offers me the flexibility that my cheaper board did not allow. The controls are straightforward and the unit itself is perfect for our four-piece band. Wish I had bought it sooner.
