Mark Tremonti's Signature Amplifier

The PRS Mark Tremonti MT15 15/7-watt tube amplifier head sings with the high-gain detail, crystal cleans, and flexibility that Tremonti relies on for his legendary work in Tremonti and Alter Bridge. And best of all, it does it in a compact amplifier that is switchable between roaring-loud 15-watt and manageable 7-watt performance. The MT15's two channels offer enough tonal shaping to make it a go-to studio amplifier for any style of playing. And thanks to the effects loop around back, it's easy to expand the tonal horizons of this diminutive monster.

Mark Tremonti

After bursting onto the rock scene in Creed, Mark Tremonti quickly established himself as an heir to the guitar-hero throne. Now playing in the internationally renown Alter Bridge, Tremonti has only widened his legend by use of supreme metal techniques and ground-rattling riffs, as well as his more delicate clean tones and acoustic guitar work. A longtime PRS user, it only makes sense that he went to Paul Smith to help design his first signature amplifier. The result — the Mark Tremonti MT15 — is a compact powerhouse that delivers the quality of craftsmanship and tone that comes with the Paul Reed Smith name.

Wide range of tones

Though boasting a straightforward control layout across its front panel, the PRS Mark Tremonti Signature MT15 all-tube amp head will conjure up a surprisingly diverse range of fantastic tones. The amplifier's clean channel is capable of the crystalline clean tones that make up half of the Tremonti signature tone. The Lead channel is where you'll find the harmonically rich grind that Mark uses to pummel his most famous riffs. Additionally, pull the boost on the clean channel and you have a vintage-approved breakup that is quite comfortable in rock 'n' roll, blues, country, and more.

Around back

By turning the MT15 around, you'll find a few touches that ensure the amplifier will integrate well with your rig. First, the amplifier's effects loop is a perfect place for your time-based and modulation effects. And the loop's transparent nature means it will never interfere with your guitar's original tone. The amplifier's Full/Half Power switch selects between 15- and 7-watt performance, perfect for adapting to your performance situation. And finally, the amplifier's external bias controls allow easy access to fine-tuning your tubes' performance.

Game Changer

This amp is the perfect middle ground between a full size head and other lunchbox heads. Most 15 watt amps can't keep up with a drummer, this can. In reality this is closer to 25 watts, there are YouTube videos confirming this. This can cover anything from bedroom volumes to bar gigs with a full band. That being said, getting low volume tones can be difficult with the volume pot. It's very very touchy. I ordered a JHS little black box and put that in the loop. It acts as a master volume and lets you have a very fine control of the volume level. I highly recommend one, I didn't need an attenuator after this. Also many people on forums complained of a noisy effects loop and I also noticed a bit of noise. I ordered a 12au7 tube and switched it for the 12ax7 that powers the loop. It's the tube sitting behind the row of preamp tubes in the front and the power tubes in the back. This took care of any noise in the loop without changing tone or gain at all. Obviously take your amp to a tech if you aren't comfortable with this but swapping tubes is pretty easy and there's YouTube vids on this very amp. Clean channel sounds great with lots of headroom. Lead channel has all the gain you'd ever need and kind of sounds like a mix of a 5150 and a Dual Rectifier. I have the older one with 6l6s but I can't imagine the 5881 tubes can sound any worse, and this amp sounds great! Very well built, sounds better than amps costing much, much more.

Best amp you can buy for under a grand.

I've owned quite a few amps over the years, and this is by far my favorite one. It'll do anything you could want it to as far as rock and metal goes, and the clean channel is fantastic too for being a high gain amp. This is the loudest 15w amp I've ever heard, it blows my 120w solid state Orange out of the water, I have this amp a quarter of the way up in volume and I'm surprised the cops haven't came knocking on my door yet! But this amp, it's incredible.

One of the best purchases I've ever made

I was using a 4x12 Mesa cab with a Triple Rec for years and nothing else could get the tone I was getting with that setup. When I decided to downsize to a 2x12 for the sake of my back, I needed a smaller head that still packed a punch. This is it. The clean tones cover a wide range, it feels like every Fender amp tone packed into one spot. The distorted channel has equal range, allowing you to accomplish anything from classic rock to modern technical metal. The blue/red LEDs that light up with each channel are an added bonus and add a nice flair to the stage and practice space. Super light, rugged construction, the gig bag is a nice touch. I used this amp and an Ibanez Prestige RG 7 string for the recording below.

Wow, just wow!

I just purchased the PRS MT15 with the matching 1 x 12 cabinet. Wow, this thing rocks! I have only had it on the 7 watt setting and it is plenty loud enough to play over a drummer. You can get some nice clean tones with a lot of low end. The lead channel is just killer. Kudos to Mark Tremonti and the people at PRS for creating this. I play mostly metal and this thing blew me away. Lead channel is super tight and punchy. This is the first tube amp I have owned and I am glad I chose it.

The MT15 is worth the money!

Pleasantly surprised with the MT15! The clean channel is great and very clear. The dirty channel can easily get metal and hard rock tones. It is dry-sounding, so I run a delay pedal in the loop to combat that. Mark Tremonti does the same thing.

For those who are complaining about it being a noisy amp, a simple noise gate pedal will clean it up. Knowing that it could be noisy, I bought a noise gate, however, I haven't bothered putting it in the FX loop because it's not that big of a deal for me.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Michael Saulnier

When I look for an amp, I need lots of tones, and that's why the PRS Mark Tremonti MT15 caught my eye. I love pedals, and the MT15's clean channel has the perfect combination of headroom and chime to handle anything I throw at it. I could do a whole gig with just the clean channel and my pedalboard alone! However, if I did, then I'd miss out on the massive range of the drive channel. I've gotten everything from a bluesy breakup to fully saturated modern-rock drive out of this amp. And even at just 15 watts, my MT15 is loud enough to compete with any drummer I play with.
