A Legend Is Reborn - with Cool Extras!

The Rode NT2-A is a professional large capsule (1") condenser studio microphone with variable pick-up pattern, variable highpass filter and variable pad. These features provide greater creative control and versatility. Three 3-position switches located on the mic body provide the freedom to step from Figure 8, Cardioid or Omni polar pick-up patterns; from a flat response to either 40Hz or 80Hz highpass filter, and a Pad adjustment of 0dB, -5dB or -10dB attenuation. The heart of the NT2-A is the Australian-designed and -manufactured TYPE HF1 dual diaphragm capsule. The frequency and transient response of this new transducer has been voiced to complement today's modern recording techniques yet still evoke the silky smooth character of legendary microphones of the 50's and 60's. And just to make the NT2 A Studio Solution a home run, RODE is including a shockmount, cable, and dust cover! What an incredible deal!

Ultimate Studio Mic

I have had this mic for years and recorded countless records and voice-overs with them. Build quality is exceptional and can capture any recording source smoothly. Shot it out against more expensive mics and it is still my go-to mic. For its price and features, its hard to beat. During lock-down I was a bit bored and decided to give it a new look. Hope RODE will consider offering them in various colors.

Excellent mic

The sound is warm and sparkling. The only thing I would change is the pop filter design. They have the pop filter "screw in" welded to the shock mount, which means you can only have the mic turned one direction if you're going to use that pop filter. And the welded part is a very poor placement for those who use a traditional mic stand. I had to order a different pop filter that would give me the flexibility I need on mic placement with my mic stand and music stand setup. This needs to be a non-welded pop filter. Or the attachment of the shock mount to the mic stand needs to swivel at least 90 degrees (ideally 120 degrees to any side).

Amazing

I"m a singer, and a loud one too. I cover mostly broadway songs. So it"s hard to find a mic that can handle the kind of songs that I do. Originally I had a blue snowball mic. Which worked well. Kinda. But now I absolutely love this microphone, it"s built extremely well. I could scream into this thing without it peaking. And I would definately but another one in the case that this one broke. Highly recommend

Rockabilly One-Mic Wonder

As a newer psychobilly band, we really want to get some tunes recorded. But, alas, studio time can be remarkably expensive. And when two-thirds of the band has experience with recording sounds in all manner of situation, and the other third has a spacious area for recording... well hey, why not do it yourself!

Being that I'm so in love with my NT1-A, I figured we could give the NT2-A a shot so we could exploit the figure-8 polar pattern. So, we got the mic set up in front of our vocalist, drums and amps off to the side, and the upright bass behind the mic... and it turned out this was the most perfect gear purchase I've ever made.

I am _extremely_ impressed with how well we could get clear vocals recorded in the same room as drums (without brushes!) and amped guitar+upright bass. I've heard of such things happening before, but to experience the magic we got with very little effort blew me right away. Even in a room with near-zero treatment ahead of time and no more than half an hour of setting stuff up... great results.

I just can't wait to hear the results when I get entire weekends to set the room up...

This mic is going places. Highly recommend, especially on a budget!

This Thing Is A Beast

I've used a ton of mics. Recorded daily for the past 10+ years. Ive owned a ton of mics from many name brand companies. Besides this mic I like the Blue Blueberry. Both have a similar frequency response.

So anyway I use this for YouTube voice over and I love it. It's a very smooth presence boosted airy mic. This mic has dips in all the right places. Lots of mics have a similar airy presence but they lack the dips. Is this mic perfect? no. This mic will eat up all your midrange and sit on top of anything. You may want a thinner sounding mic but if you want a godlike broadcasting mic look no further. You do have to get used to its smooth wavey sound but in comparison to the peaky, harsh, flat, scooped, lack of air, too dense, etc frequency responses out there youre not gonna get much better than this. I think it sounds better than the TLM 103, 414XLii, AT4047, etc. It's only competitor like I said Is the blue blueberry mic. This is definitely a mic you should own. There's room for other mics like I said though if you want a less midrange heavy mic that wont steal the show. I just wish you could use the omni frequency response too in cardioid for situations where you just want a flat airy response. I'm sure musicians can take advantage of that for a room mic or whatever.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Max Dillon

I’ve been producing and recording a wide range of music for over 6 years, and at the beginning I knew I needed a mic that I could put through the ringer and would stand the test if time. I originally bought the Rode NT2A as a vocal mic, but I ended up using it for much more. The versatile polar patterns and high pass filters make it perfect for recording a broad range of sources like vocals, acoustic guitars, and various foley sounds. For my first mic, and only mic for a long time — I don’t think I could’ve picked a better mic to start with.
