Try D’Addario’s Toughest Strings

D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Guitar Strings represent one of the most exciting developments in string technology in recent years. Tough as nails, these strings feature an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire and a reformulated nickel plating on the wrap wire. Of course, NYXL strings are still made with the dedication to quality and craftsmanship that players have come to expect from D’Addario. But what does all of that do for you, the player? First, the strings are more flexible, making them a much better alternative for players who abuse the whammy bar. They’re also more stable — case in point, D'Addario reports these strings flaunt a 131% greater tuning stability. Suffice it to say: with these strings on your guitar, you’re free to play without worrying that a broken string will derail your session.

The NYXL Difference

So, what really makes NYXLs so much different than standard D’Addario strings? First, they’re built with an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire for greater durability and a higher tolerance for alternate tunings. The other difference found on NYXL strings is the reformulated nickel-plated wrap wire, which delivers a subtle boost in output between 1kHz and 3.5kHz. With NYXL strings, you get a modernized sound and ferocious durability without sacrificing the easy playability you know and love.

Which string gauge is right for me?

  • Extra Super Light: Super easy to play. Easy to bend. Great for beginners.
  • Super Light: Easy on the fingers. Slightly more volume and projection.
  • Regular Light: Most popular. Ideal balance of playability and versatile tone.
  • Medium: A popular fusion of heftier plain steels and wound strings.
  • Heavy: Hardest to bend. Maximum volume. Often used for drop/altered tunings.

The right tone for everyone

D’Addario believes that every acoustic guitar player should have a set of strings that match their sonic needs. That’s why they build strings with a range of construction methods and materials. Whether you go with the brightest 80/20 Bronze strings, the mellowest Silk & Steels, or anywhere in between, D’Addario has the perfect sound for everyone. Want to learn more? D’Addario: innovative strings since 1680

When you go with D’Addario, you receive far more than a great set of strings. You’re benefiting from three centuries of string-making experience. The D’Addario family tradition began in 1680 in the tiny town of Salle, Italy, where they made assorted instrument strings for over 200 years before relocating to New York in 1905. Since then, the D’Addario family has become a leader in string innovation. They designed the modern winding machine, introduced ultra-reliable hexagonal core wires, and pioneered the colored-coded ball end movement. More than 300 years since the family started making strings, D’Addario continues to set a global standard for quality and reliability. And every day, more than 500,000 strings emerge from their USA-based workshops.

D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings Features:

  • Advanced nickel-wound guitar strings with outstanding durability
  • Exclusive New York-made high-carbon steel core delivers unrivaled strength and elasticity

Light but strong

Thought I would try these super light strings to help a real amateur guitarist. Boy was I impressed with the result. Really helped me in forming difficult chords particularly tough jazz chords. These strings really hold a tune and yet remain strong. I expect pros would not care for these super thin strings but us amateurish players would love them for super ease of play b

Bought to play Traditional Vietnamese music

I am a rock guitar player that has Vietnamese singers. And they wanted me to learn the song that has these really crazy wide bends. Vietnamese guitar players have super scalloped guitar necks that allows them to play really intricate phrasing and wide vibrato. And their bends can easily reach two whole steps! Long story short: I bought these I gauge 8 instead of my normal 9 gauge, and tried the newer NYXL instead of the XL series i normal buy... WOW! They sounds bigger and fuller than the thicker guage D'Addario's i normally use! They are also really responsive to soft and hard picking than the XL series. Softer finger picking sounds more delicate and sweeter. And they bend like crazy with no problem. I would not feel comfortable bending other gauge 8 strings like i do these. They normal are just too thin. But these handle huge bends like a champ. They are a few dollars pricier than other D'Addarios, but THEY ARE WORTH IT!

Truly Amazing!

I took a chance on these after watching the videos. I wanted to see if I could go super extra light on my Hofner Nightingale Special and keep the the same sound quality that I had with my D'Addario XL 10 - 46. I have carpal tunnel, so I wanted to be able to play longer without pain, but I didn't want to have a tinny crappy sound. I stuck these on as soon as I got them and I was BLOWN AWAY! They have amazing sound and I can play forever without even getting tired. I have to adjust my grip so that I am not pressing so hard, but it saves my hands. I am amazed at the sound quality. Also, they stayed in tune after about 10 minutes of playing. They don't take nearly as long to settle as any other strings I have used.

Is it just me

I'll tell you I just put on a set of 8s expecting super light performance. Wrong. These feel heavier than the 10s that was on it. **** hard to bend. I think they put the wrong strings in the box. I'll try ol Willies 7 gauge if that what it takes.
