Honey, They Shrunk the P Bass!

Scaled-down for younger players, the Squier Mini Precision Bass delivers the stellar P Bass look and sound in a compact, poplar body and shorter than short-scale maple neck. And, like its big brother, the Mini Precision Bass pumps out the familiar P Bass tone through its split single-coil pickup. It’s been said that bass players aren’t born, they’re made. Just kidding, no one’s ever said that. But, if your kiddo is a little groove monster in the making, you can’t go wrong sticking a Squier Mini Precision Bass in their hands. For parents at Sweetwater, the Squier Mini guitars and basses, including the Mini Precision Bass, are a go-to-choice when selecting an instrument for their aspiring musicians. Start them out right with a great instrument made just for them!

A Precision Bass, only smaller

A rock ’n’ roll icon, the original P Design was inspired by the Fender Stratocaster’s contoured double-horn body. The Mini Precision Bass keeps the shape but shrinks it down to nearly three-quarters of its original size, perfect for younger players. Beyond that, it’s a P through and through, decked out in chrome knobs, a rock-solid hardtail bridge, and a vintage-style single-ply pickguard, so there’s no mistaking its heritage.

Timeless split single-coil tone

A workhorse in the studio and on the stage, the P Bass has a legendary tone, owing to its split single-coil pickup design. The pint-sized Mini Precision Bass pumps out that big classic sound — fat low-end, punchy mids, and crisp highs. With a single volume knob and single tone knob, the Mini Precision Bass has plenty of tonal variation, whether you want to stand out from the band or tuck in behind the drummer and help hold down the groove.

Comfy neck for kiddo-sized hands

The Mini Precision Bass’s diminutive neck measures in at 28.6-inches, nearly two inches shorter than a typical short-scale bass. And, featuring a comfortable C-shape profile and satin urethane finish, it’s incredibly easy to move around on — especially for smaller hands. Capped with lively laurel fingerboard decorated with pearloid dot inlays, the Mini Precision bass’s neck is as sharp-looking as it is great-sounding.

Squier Mini Precision Bass Electric Bass Features:

  • 3/4-size Precision Bass, perfect for beginners and young players
  • Classic split single-coil P Bass tone
  • Satin-finished maple neck with a comfortable C profile
  • Lively laurel fingerboard and pearloid dot inlays
  • Chrome hardware and tuners

Right gear for the right purpose!

I researched this bass to use for demos in my home studio. Read a bunch of reviews before purchasing.
This bass sounds really good, plays really well out of the box.

I am a guitar player needing a versatile non-finicky bass that plays in tune.

Mine has a lightly flamed maple neck. I have done a few demos, haven't even taken the tag off yet.

For $ it is no brainer.

Sweet N Petite

Can't NOT smile playing this sweet little bass. I have a copy of most every short scale bass made. Out of all of them this lil' Squier is the lightest, most petite and possibly the most fun to play out of all of them...(tied with the just slightly larger Ibanez Mikro). The Mikro, same price BTW, has more thump and rumble but is also slightly bigger and heavier. If you're a small adult, a slight female or a child's first bass, go for this incredibly fun and easy to play little bass, it's a blast to play and sounds great too. The only thing I did after purchase was put a slightly heavier set of my personal favorite short scale strings on it, the D'Addario EXL160S 50-105's. Even with my bad back and everything I can easily play 3 hour gigs in our usual taverns, VFW's, and outdoor BBQ and party gigs with no discomfort afterwards. It's a sweet little bass for sure.
Music background: 48 years steady working drummer and/or bass player for multiple bands over many years.

Great bass, but not always great out of the box

These basses play easily and sound terrific...just like a full-size P-bass. But they don't always come set up well right out of the box. Yours may need attention. Mine had serious fret buzz on the bottom two strings all the way up to the fourth fret. That's the bad news. The good news? It took a luthier-friend of mine less than 10 minutes to set it up perfectly. I chose the Mini P-Bass because of its pedigree in the P-bass family and because it's lightweight. Would I recommend the Squier Mini P-Bass to a friend? Absolutely.

A perfect bass for the studio

This was, without a doubt, the best purchase I have made in many years. I needed a bass for studio work. The major appeal of this Mini Precision was the size. It is perfect for use in a studio. The 3/4 size makes it about the size of a Fender stratocaster. There is no compromise in quality, playability, or range with this smaller Squire bass. I couldn't be happier!
Music background: began my professional career in the late 60s, currently work in my home studio just making music and having fun.

Amazing Bass for the money!

This bass arrived yesterday. I was blown away with the good looks and finish. It is so comfortable to hold and is much lighter than my regular American made P bass. It needed NO setup! Everything was perfect right out of the box. The frets are smooth - even the pickup height was correct! The pickups are good and punchy. Even the strings sound and feel good. THIS IS AN AMAZING BASS AT ANY PRICE. My American P bass is now in the closet.
Music background: 55 years of playing rock and blues.
