Put A Legendary Live DI/EQ in Your Rig

For over a decade and a half, the Para DI has been one of the mainstays of live music world. It's small enough to fit in just about any instrument case, yet the impact the Para DI makes on the sound quality of your acoustic pickups is simply profound. It's built road tough and versatile enough to run for up to 200 hours on a single, field changeable 9V battery power or to run off of +48V phantom power, and the signal of either active or passive electronics. And you're sure to love the way that the Para DI's 5-band equalizer sweetens your sound.

When you need a rock-solid direct box that brings out the best qualities of your acoustic guitar's tone, accept no substitutes! The Para DI's discrete, Class A FET input provides a crystal-clear internal sound path, and an adjustable gain parameter makes matching the levels of active or passive electronics easy. It's equalizer offers +/-12dB of correction with 6dB high- and low-mid frequency notches and an adjustable -12dB/octave low-cut filter. A built in FX send and return loop also assures you get the most of the Para DI's signal quality regardless of the rest of your signal chain. On the way out, out can chose from balanced XLR and 1/4" outputs. Finally, a total gain of up to +24dB ensures that you'll get a sufficiently powerful signal.

Great amp replacement

I replaced my acoustic amp with this to have more free space on stage, and there's no turning back for me. I've used with guitar, mandolin, and electric upright bass, all to great success. Being powered by phantom power is the cherry on top, meaning I don't have to worry about a wall wart or 9v batteries.

Great for mixed cello signal

I'm a cellist who uses pedals. I use this DI to balance the tone of my cello from a pickup using the EQ function. I'm also able to get a balanced output of my dry cello signal combined with the pedal signal if I connect the DI out to PA and use another DI from my pedal output. It works very well!

Makes everything better!

I have used the Para DI on acoustic guitars, electric bass guitars, tritone guitars with Lace pickup, and any other acoustic instrument with a pickup including violin. It makes everything better. I have gigged with it for years as I have watched the price increase... It still works great and I am thinking of buying a second one! Even the cardboard box it came in is road-ready! I am a true believer... and Sweetwater is always my first stop! (Thanks David)

Clean and clear

I paired this preamp with a K&K pure mini acoustic guitar pickup newly installed in my Martin OM-35. At home the combo sounded great but the real test was today, playing a live gig and patched into the house PA's mixer. The sound was clean and absolutely clear, no artifacts or noise; fingerpicking or strumming, the Martin sounded just like itself only louder. I also added in the Xvive U2 Digital Wireless Guitar System, also from Sweetwater, so I could be free from mics and chords and everything worked together like a charm. As an old folkie, I had resisted getting into electronics but the setup was simple and worth it.

Glad to see this gem is still around unchanged! The best there is, and it will become your "secret!"

I have played about 2000 shows with my Para Acoustic DI. I have replaced the XLR connector myself, because the plastic literally wore down from use, but the thing performs to this day. I use it with an Ovation guitar (one of about 20) and I can't count the number of times people come up to me and say "Wow. I usually hate Ovations, but your sounds simply amazing! What are you doing to get it to sound so good?" The secret, run the eq at flat. The gain at 70%, and plug into an LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI. Then, run that to the board and add a little verb or delay. This box is the trick. Most guys suck their Ovations dry by plugging into a low impedance input. Many go straight to the boards (100k ohm) which is a major no-no, but even a good old countryman DI can't sound like this does. This thing has a 10meg input impedance, so it's good for everything from Piezo pickups to crappy Ovations (LOL). Really, this thing will unlock your instrument! Buy it!!!!!!

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Corey Elliott

A few years into playing acoustic guitar, I picked up an LR Baggs Para DI, and for the past several years, it's been my go-to direct box. I play in a lot of different venues, and the Para DI's EQ makes it easy to shape my tone into something I can be proud of, no matter where I perform. I particularly appreciate the way the Presence control lets me bring out the best parts of my Taylor's sound, both when I play in a band or solo. And thanks to the adjustable notch filter, I never have to worry about problem frequencies causing feedback.
