The Next Step in Tuning Technology

Building upon the foundation of the classic Pitchblack Pro, Korg’s Pitchblack X Pro rackmount tuner ushers in an entirely new level of tuning precision and functionality. This rackmount tuner comes equipped with an incredible ±0.1 cent level of accuracy, offering a clear multicolor LED screen with four handy display modes to excel in a variety of different applications, from setting your instrument’s intonation to quick stage adjustments. What's more, Korg’s innovative Ultra Buffer system ensures that even the longest cable runs experience no tone suck or volume loss — there’s even an onboard cable checker to determine if your cables are shorting out. From the stage to the studio to even the workbench, the Korg Pitchblack X Pro rackmount tuner represents the epitome of tuning accuracy and utility!

On the rack, on the floor, or on the board

While the Korg Pitchblack X Pro is designed to be placed in a rack setup, this versatile tuner offers a wide range of flexible configuration options. Rack mounting adapters keep the Pitchblack X Pro firmly in place on any rack system, but these adapters can be easily removed and reattached to the bottom of the unit, serving as a stand for when you’d rather have your tuner on the floor or on a pedalboard. Sweetwater’s live sound gurus are especially impressed by the Pitchblack X Pro’s dual output jack system, allowing you to rig up the unit from either the front or the back side to more easily integrate into pre-established setups.

Unmatched tuning accuracy

As the flagship tuner in Korg’s Pitchblack series, it’s only fitting that the Pitchblack X Pro sports an astounding ±0.1 cent level of accuracy! This level of precision can handle just about every tuning application in the book with ease, from bog-standard stage rig configurations to minute intonation adjustments on a luthier’s bench. What’s more, four different display modes are included to fit your individual tuning application, from the stage-ready simplicity of Regular mode to the ultra-precise Focus mode.

Drive long cable leads and complex pedalboards

The Korg Pitchblack X Pro’s built-in Ultra Buffer system is designed to fight the volume drop and tone loss that can so often occur when running passive pickups through long cable runs or complex pedalboards. Ultra Buffer keeps your high end clear and present and your tone full, no matter what kind of rig you’re running — even when the tuner is bypassed!

Korg Pitchblack X Pro Rackmount Tuner Features:

  • Exceptionally accurate tuning, down to ±0.1 cents covers everything from on-stage tuning to in-depth intonation adjustments
  • Innovative Ultra Buffer to retain your signal’s level and clarity when running long cables or complex pedalboards
  • Detachable rack mount adapters can be used as floor stand
  • Output jacks on both the front and rear for easy integration into any setup
  • Customizable multicolored LEDS and “just-right tuning” display for clear visual feedback
  • 4 meter display modes including: Regular, Strobe, Half Strobe, and Focus
  • Onboard cable checker to determine if cables are shorting out

Bright, visible, easy to use.

I use a Korg DTR-2000 rack tuner in the workplace 5 days a week for the last 15 years. It still holds up. For my home bench, I wanted the latest-greatest. It's everything I expected it to be. I have a very bright LED bench light that shines at 5000 lumens, and that worried me about the brightness of a rack tuner. However, this tuner still shines brightly. It's VERY responsive and easy to see. The cable tester is an added bonus because I make cables too. I couldn't ask for a better product. Now let's see if it stands the test of time in the way my trusted DTR-2000 has.

Excellent Tuner

Many good things to say about this tuner, easy to see, inputs and output on front and back, aesthetically pleasing... many comments about it. Plus its a cable checker! Nice.

I will tell you this... the specs say this: Power Supply: 9V DC power supply (sold separately)

This is simply not true. IT DOES COME WITH POWER SUPPLY. So no need to order an extra, like I did, only to have to return it.

The Good and the minor Not So Good

I pre-ordered this because I was look for something I could see from further away in the studio as opposed to looking at the computer or down on the pedal board at my Peterson StroboStomp. This met my expectations. It is visually pleasing to the eye and has many choices as to settings and color which are quite simple to customize. It also has many features/tunings that I will never use but glad they are there, you never know. Now for the not so good. It has to be made out of the cheapest plastic I have ever seen. Think Walmart $ Blu-ray DVD player cheap. It comes with clip on rack mounts also made out of plastic that snap into place if needed. Overall it weighs nothing and feels delicate. Will I keep it? Yes but I will treat it a fragile. It would have been a perfect 5 star if made out of aluminum like every other quality piece of equipment in your recording rack.

Ground Loop - hum issue

Electric bass or upright bass, I get a hum/ground loop issue. See people talking about grounding from the case, but it's all made out of plastic. Until this issue is resolved, it's basically an overpriced silent tuner.

No mute jack!

This newest version does not have a mute jack. I use a foot pedal extensively to mute my rig to tune and this is a huge dealbreaker. I was really, really hoping that the tuner had a firmware feature that could repurpose the new output jack into a mute jack, but no dice.

The entire housing is cheap plastic. The rack ears are plastic, too, and snap in, which means they'll snap off. This tuner has a large wall wart for a power brick *and* it's angled 90° so that it blocks either another outlet in my Furman or it blocks the breaker button. The interface is nice, though. Big, bright, colorful, and easy to read from a distance.

It's back to my 25 year old, tank of a DTR-2 and I'm happy with my decision. This new PitchBlack was a major disappointment.
