The Pinnacle of the Famous Pulp 'N' Peel

The JHS Pulp 'N' Peel V4 compressor pedal puts dynamics and sustain at your fingertips while adding a distinct flavor to your tone. Recalling a classic vintage design, the Pulp 'N' Peel V4 still keeps your tone and attack intact like the previous designs, but it adds more headroom, EQ control, and a parallel dirt circuit to further diversify what these pedals are capable of. And the Pulp 'N' Peel V4 boasts enough headroom to easily be used as a boost. We've put the Pulp 'N' Peel through its paces at Sweetwater, and it sounds great in any genre.

JHS Pulp 'N' Peel V4 Compressor Pedal Features:
  • Update on the popular Pulp 'N' Peel compressor
  • Natural compression without sacrificing your tone
  • Reminiscent of classic vintage compressors
  • Parallel dirt control puts added grit into your sound
  • EQ control lets you retain all your desired frequencies
  • Blend control adds your unaffected sound back in
  • XLR DI output works great for bass or acoustic instruments
  • Boosts and sustains while squeezing the high end
The Pulp 'N' Peel V4 is one of the most powerful compressor pedals available.

Come for the Compression, Stay for all the Extra Features

This is so much more than a great compression pedal. The DI, dirt (which is a rat pedal) and the blend knob make this pedal useful for much many other reasons! I love it on acoustic or electric, especially when I use a little bit of dirt like a preamp. The compression is exactly what I want it to be, perfectly smooth and not changing my sound too much. I use it for R&B, funk, as well as super clean when the dirt is off. When the dirt is on I use it for rock, (this pedal helps me get my RHCP tone as an always on tone shaper).

I kept turning it back on

I finally get it about compression pedals. It took trying a different one to get it but now I do. It adds this little bit of color. Almost like invisible ink. You don't see it but you smile knowing it's there. It didn't take very long at all to find my preferred settings for where it's at in the chain. Once I did, I was feeling this change in the tone. Hearing it, absolutely! I was also feeling this squish that these things are supposed to do. I was using a Jackson Audio Bloom but it just wasn't jiving with how and what I play. I found out later on that it's a default 'country' setting. My playing style is far from country. :) So now this pedal sits nicely between my EHX Silencer and my Octonaut Hyperdrive (I wish Sweetwater would pick these up so everyone can get one). I won't be using the buffer or over drive on this pedal unless all three of my overdrive pedals fail. Even then I have the OD on my 5150. If you buy it, you will get it. If you don't, hey. It's not for you. I highly recommend this pedal.

The first compressor I actually love

I've been playing for over a decade now and, despite trying out a few compressor pedals, I never landed on one I actually felt was worth my board space. The Pulp 'N' Peel blew me away, and it hasn't left my board since I bought it. The EQ adds just the right amount of color to me, and the blend knob lets me pull in enough of my guitar that it still sounds like "my guitar." I don't use the dirt toggle much, to be honest, but still a nice option to have on an already really versatile pedal.

For Electric OR Acoustic

I have two PnPs. A v3 for my electric rig that stays on at the beginning of my chain, and a v4 for my acoustic rig. Yes acoustic.

For electric, I"ve tried many comps. I couldn"t get them to sound "right." This one not only sounds amazing, but is idiot proof. I don"t know what kind of hocus pocus Josh and the boys at JHS are doing, but this pedal could not be any easier to dial in. Plus, you also get the incredible JHS buffer circuit built in. I"ll never play without it.

As for acoustic, that"s where I was the most surprised and where I surprise so many people. I use the V4 on my acoustic board and it evens out the heavy strumming songs, and adds clarity and sustain to softer songs. Truly transparent. If you play acoustic, just try it one time. Set volume and tone to noon, and comp and blend at 2:00, and let your ears tell you the good news. I don"t know if it was designed for acoustic in mind, but every acoustic player owes it to themselves to try this one. Always on, and first in my chain. It"s even perfect to use alone as your direct box. Just plug an XLR into the out, and it"s all you need. I never play without it.

Thank you JHS for making a fantastic, and simple, comp. Why can"t all comps be this easy and this good?

Love it on bass/acoustic/electric

I used this pedal a few times at Sweetwater's music store while testing basses and amps. I didn't intend to buy this thing, but after hearing how much it tightened up the low B on 5 string basses and helped get a punchier sound, I had to have it. I didn't try any other pedals, but I noticed something about this one specifically. Without any gain reduction LED's and ratio knobs, I found myself listening to the pedal rather than watching what it was doing. I geek out on the lights and mathematics, but without them getting in the way I found I could simply go by sound and feel to dial in my tone and I loved that idea!
