Welcome to the All-tube, Analog Sound of REDDI

The A designs REDDI Tube Direct Box is a unique unit. By "unique" we mean the effort placed into the REDDI to produce a sound and character all its own. That effort took A Designs Audio back to a place in time when the Ampeg B15 reigned supreme - making liberal use of tubes and transformers. The A Designs REDDI endeavors to not only rebuild that tone, but also bring that sound to pro audio. Plug a Bass into a REDDI and it's a step back in time. Thick, round, solid sounding Bass notes that sit perfectly in the mix. A Designs REDDI is also great for guitars, synths, and any other electronic instrument that requires a direct box for recording. In fact, some recording engineers at Sweetwater have said that REDDI is the "best tube DI ever made."

Tube Direct Box

The A-Designs Audio REDDI does not add tremendous amounts of gain as the point of this DI is tone, not huge increases in volume. A tube-based amplifier using the 6N1P output tube feeding an A Designs custom-wound output transformer provides the circuit path for your guitar or bass giving you a sound that you can't get through any other device.

It's all about the transformers

With any Tube gear, one of the key factor is transformers; both audio and power supply transformers. A Designs Audio custom-builds their own unique audio output transformer to produce the specific sound they're after. To keep the REDDI at its lowest noise level A Designs employs a special toroid transformer in the power supply - no wall warts or off the shelf transformer here!

Combo XLR/1/4" input connectors

Using the combination XLR and 1/4" input connectors makes the REDDI a more versatile unit. The 1/4" will handle the bass, guitar, keyboards, and MPC/Drum machines, while the XLR can be used with dynamic microphones for recording duties on snare, kick, or other instruments. The REDDI now ships with a 1/4" throughput as well.

Drop Dead Red Metal Casing

It is only fitting that a unique box like the REDDI should look unique. With a long chassis and a fire engine red finish (Red DI, get it?), the REDDI is impossible to miss even in a dark recording studio. The bright blue LED Power indicator can be seen across the stage, which makes the REDDI a very attractive package for both the engineer and musician.

Amazing Sounding Tube DI

I've own a couple different tube DIs and several preamps and this simple device is easily on par with my Noble DI. IMO there's a place for both but this REDDI is simply as good as anything out there. Build quality is top notch, the sound is flawless.

Perfect!

The Reddi was exactly what I was looking for to make my Stingray 5 tone sound great during live performances. Been playing through an Eden Highwayman head to FOH but got tired of hauling that thing around. This is even a better tone and much lighter. I definitely recommend this unit!

So worth it

This is a small price to pay for a superb tube DI. I am getting the Ampeg-like, deep bass tone I've been searching for for 30 years. it is incredible.

Many thanks to my Sales Engineer, Brendan Murphy, for recommending this.

Simple design, built like a tank, fantastic tone

I've used my REDDI on 3 albums with my band, and lent it to two other local bassists that do a lot of sessions across a variety of music. The REDDI has excelled every time. The unit is built like a tank, and that big transformer is no joke. I usually record two channels of bass, a "clean" and "overdriven". I use the REDDI for my clean, but like that it is not a pristine or sterile tone. It imparts a wonderful tube amp warmth to the track. The other players that have borrowed it have often done tracks using just the REDDI with great results.

If you want a recording preamp with a lot of range and flexible features, the REDDI is not it. However, it does one thing and it does it to the highest level.

Amazing Box!

USE: Bass Guitar

Don't expect gain or volume, this box is about pure tone. I've used it thru my live rig, at home via a Focusrite Scarlett Solo and in a pro studio setting, where it lives now, tone, tone, tone. With a passive bass you may need a bit more gain adjustment but with an active bass you'll only need to set it around 1,2 or 3 max.

If you can afford it, this is "THE" DI Box to have for a bass player. If your only need is for live shows then go with a Radial, available right here at SW as well.
