Intelligently Designed Capo from Shubb

Get stellar tone and stage-ready looks with the S1 Deluxe capo for steel-string guitars from Shubb. This sleekly designed capo is machined of solid stainless steel for extra durability. Shubb's patented closing action on the S1 provides ideal pressure each and every time, keeping annoying ringing and buzzing at bay — a feature guitarists here at Sweetwater really appreciate.

Top-notch materials and results

The S1 uses a soft rubber pad that works much like your fingertip, fretting the strings on your fingerboard with an even pressure that won't pull your strings out of tune. The closing action is even and firm but doesn't smash the strings too hard. In addition, Shubb capos are a breeze to use — one flip of a lever locks it securely in place and removes it just as easily. Fast, easy installation and rock-solid intonation have kept Shubb capos popular for nearly 40 years!

Shubb S1 Deluxe Capo Features:

  • Solid stainless steel capo provides outstanding contact with your fingerboard
  • Shubb's patented closing action provides ideal pressure each and every time, keeping annoying ringing and buzzing at bay
  • Soft rubber pad works like fingertips, fretting the strings with an even pressure
  • Quickly and easily moves up and down the neck

New Favorite Capo

The Shubb S1 surprised me with the clarity of chords up the neck. Much better sound than the Victor/Dunlop I've used for years. As other reviewer mentioned, it's way less intrusive than the photo looks, it kinda disappears, pretty sleek design. The stainless steel looks nice, bought one for my 12 string as well, the S3.

Still the best capo available from a price/value ratio standpoint.

Was looking for a reliable capo to use on my Yamaha FG820L and after doing quite a bit of online research, I ended up settling for the Shubb S1 Deluxe. Reason I chose this one over the Shubb C1 Standard (brass) is because I honestly prefer its stainless steel construction for added durability and long-lasting use. Easy to attach and lock into place on the fretboard and the contoured rubber pads apply just enough pressure on both the neck and strings without having to worry about the guitar itself going out of tune unexpectedly when playing. Only knock on this capo is that it wasn't meant to be placed at the headstock like many other select-brand capos when not in use (lol), but that's a minor one as far as I'm concerned. Price is right in the sweet spot for this level of quality in both design and build. Definitely recommend the S1 Deluxe for the reasons stated above, but if your steel-string guitar happens to have an unusually thick neck or a "smaller-than-average" fretboard radius (anything below 9.5" to be more specific) then you might be better off getting one of the other Shubb capos that was designed exclusively to address those unique features for that matter.

Sidenote: I recently read that ALL Shubb capos are officially made in China and have been for the past couple years now. Don't let that fact deter you from getting one, though! They still adhere to the most up-to-date design specs from here in the US and continue to be assembled from quality materials under VERY strict QC guidelines on top of that. Much as I'd like to "buy American" every chance I get, even I realize it's become increasingly hard to compete with China's immense manufacturing base in this day and age. In Shubb's defense, they probably made the best decision they could for themselves considering how high the demand has been for their No. 1 best-selling product within the last decade or so. Sign of the times, folks!

Perfect

Never any issues. Clean and clear. Never a buzz, never a tuning issue. I use it on all my guitars. In my pocket right now.

works great

I bought this capo to use on my Taylor GS Mini guitar. I usually use it on the second or third fret so can't comment on using it farther up, but I have been very happy with it. I followed the start-up instructions to fine-tune the fit, and it fits securely with no buzzing.

New favorite for my electrics

I've had a Kyser capo for decades and wanted to try some different ones. Tested this one along with the Kyser and G7th Ultralight and this is my new favorite capo for my electric guitars. In photos it can look a bit big and bulky depending on the angle but it's actually quite small and sleek. Very quick to get into place. Guitar sounds greats and stays in tune. Needs very little pressure on the strings (main benefit over my old Kyser). The only bummer is that you can't park it on the headstock (like you can with the Kyser) when not in use.
