"Appetite for Destruction" Les Paul Performance Pack

Offering more appointments than most of Sweetwater's other entry-level electric guitars, the "AFD" Les Paul Special-II was designed by Slash himself. Topped with AAA flame maple, this guitar also features a dark cherry mahogany body and neck, ivory binding, and a silk print of Slash's Snakepit logo on the headstock. Prepare yourself for some thick, overdriven, screaming metallic tone the first time you plug into the included Snakepit-15 combo amp's overdrive channel — the tone that Slash made famous. Complete with a premium gig bag, signature guitar picks, and eMedia online lessons, the Epiphone Slash "AFD" Les Paul Special-II Performance Pack is a great all-inclusive bundle for beginners, or anybody who is searching for quality and affordability.

The Epiphone Les Paul Special-II — a real Les Paul at an amazing price

The streamlined Epiphone Special, a little smaller and weighing less than many of the Les Pauls you'll encounter, delivers a fat and nasty tone thanks to its two open coil humbucker pickups. The Special-II features a mahogany body and neck, rosewood fretboard with a 1.68" nut width, chrome hardware, and volume/tone controls. This is the go-to guitar for those who want to learn on a Les Paul-style guitar but don't want to break the bank.

The Snakepit-15 guitar amplifier is a great practice amp

With its focused and razor-sharp tone, the Snakepit-15 was designed by Slash himself. This unruly 15-watt guitar amp features an 8" Electar G8 Classic-25 4 ohms speaker in an open-back cabinet that delivers terrific midrange crunch with its overdrive channel, as well as something a bit more subtle with its clean channel. Complete with a full EQ section, an auxiliary input, and a headphone jack, the Snakepit-15 makes a fantastic practice amp.

Slash! Why? He is awesome

Known primarily for his work with the hard rock band Guns N' Roses during the late 1980s, Slash has garnered a well-earned reputation as one of rock's preeminent guitarists. Named the runner-up on Time magazine's list of "The 10 Best Electric Guitar Players" in 2009, and No. 65 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" in 2011, Slash continues to receive accolades from critics and music fans alike. Aside from his enormous success with Guns N' Roses, Slash has also achieved acclaim with his side project, Slash's Snakepit, and as a member of the supergroup Velvet Revolver. In 2012, Slash received one of rock music's highest honors, when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

New guitar student

I purchased the Epiphone Slash AFD Les Paul Performance Pack because of its high ratings online. I bought it from Sweetwater because of their high scores on customer service. The day after I ordered the Guitar package I received an email and a phone call from my personal customer service rep thanking me for purchasing from them and assuring me that he was always available for any questions. He also checks in occasionally to see how I'm doing. Can't ask for more than that.

Iconic

For someone like me, this guitar is simply iconic. Having grown up in California during the 1980's, the image of this guitar alone brings back memories of a time when I was absolutely blown away by the unique sound of a band the whole world has come to know. Their lead guitarist was content to wear blue jeans and play a rather plain looking instrument during a time when other bands were wearing wild outfits, and playing crazy shaped guitars in loud colors. I realize this Epiphone model isn't a 1:1 replica of Slash's axe… but, it is close enough to make you feel like an absolute boss while playing it.

The quality of this instrument for the price seems exceptional to a novice like me. Since purchasing this guitar, I have handled a few similarly priced guitars, and none of them bring about the same desire to play like this one does. Being entirely new to guitars, I honestly assumed this would be somewhat of a toy when I bought it considering the price. And while the accessories that come with it are obviously of entry-level quality, the guitar itself seems to be very well put together. No doubt a person *can* graduate to more refined/expensive versions, but I wouldn't think it would be a matter of NEED. I have no doubt that this guitar is capable of providing many years of regular use without any unusual problems. The sound it produces is nothing short of amazing to my ears.

If you're on the fence about buying one of these, go for it. It is a very nice guitar. I am so glad that I made the purchase.

First guitar - love it

This is the first guitar I've ever bought, and I have to say I'm very happy with my purchase. I read the reviews online about this guitar pack which were very favorable which is why I selected this particular starter pack. I also purchased this starter pack from Sweetwater because of their great customer service ratings and now I understand why the ratings are so high. Shortly after my purchase I received an email from a Sweetwater employee letting me know that they are inspecting and setting up the guitar before sending it to me to make sure that everything is perfect. I was given an ETA every step of the way to my house and it was accurate. The 2 year warranty is also a huge plus and gives me peace of mind. I utilized the free two weeks of the Gibson app for lessons and I'm not disappointed. The 50% off over Christmas was enough to make me purchase the annual membership and I've been using it happily for 2 months. The guitar holds its tune very well and I especially like the built in tuner. I have not used the amp much due to the Gibson app not needing the Amp but it definitely seems adequate for a practice amp. And the Sweetwater sale price was definitely a good deal. I ended up purchasing a hard case because the soft case has no padding whatsoever so keep that in mind when purchasing. The strap is comfortable and adequate for a beginner guitar and the Slash picks are a nice touch. Overall a great deal for the money.
