Squier Classic Vibe: An Affordable Take on the Classic '50s Strat

Celebrate the first decade of the Fender Stratocaster, with the Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s. This vintage-style solidbody electric guitar offers the sound and style that made the Strat the iconic instrument that it is today. The updated Squier Classic Vibe model features many cool revisions that make it a better value than ever. The Squier Classic Vibe includes a trio of Fender-designed alnico single-coil pickups (including standard 5-way switching) that really capture the traditional Stratocaster sound. At Sweetwater, we're particularly impressed by the Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s' 1.65" bone nut — an exceptional addition to the classic C-shaped neck and 9.5"-radius fretboard, which provides the kind of sustain and performance you don't typically find on a budget-friendly guitar.

Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster '50s Features:

  • Includes 3 Fender-designed single-coil alnico pickups
  • 5-way blade switch lets you tap into a full range of tones
  • C-shaped maple neck provides unquestioned Strat performance
  • Standard 25.5"-scale length, 21-fret fingerboard with 9.5" radius
  • 1.65" bone nut delivers upgraded string-to-body resonance
  • 21 Narrow Tall frets are comfortable and easy to play
  • Outfitted with a Vintage-Style Synchronized Trem

2 tone Awesomeness

I was pretty torn between the 2 tone and 3 tone sunburst but I LOVE playing the maple necks so much I went with this one.

It arrived in good physical condition but I had to lower the action, add some relief to the neck, and adjust the intonation on 3 of the strings. Although it didn't take long, I don't like dealing with that. I prefer to have it ready to go out the box. It now feels and plays great.

I kind of feel like because this particular model is not as in demand as say the lake placid blue one that it doesn't get the attention it should before being shipped out. You may have to tweak it some or have someone set it up for you.

My ONLY issue is with their delivery service. This guitar requires a signature at delivery. My delivery person left it right in front of my house without ever making contact. I was not home. He then marked that I had signed for the guitar but interestingly misspelled my name. That makes me feel insecure about making a future purchase. Not Sweetwater's fault but should be noted.

Overall, I am EXTREMELY satisfied with this purchase and Sweetwater always offers the best customer experience hands down- thanks again Drew Foster.

The positive reviews are true!!!

I usually don`t write reviews but I had to for this guitar. After reading a ton of reviews regarding the Squire Classic Vibe 50s and owning a 2018 MiM Stratocaster I was on the verge of buying another MiM due to selling the one I had. I never was really disappointed with the MiM but to me it just lacked that hardcore Fender Strat tone I was looking for. Don`t get me wrong, it did have good tone but it wasn`t great tone (vintage tone). I could afford to buy an American Stratocaster but I could not see spending that kind of money when I am not a professional player. What I did learn from studying up on the Squire 50s is that it has the Alnico pickups instead of the Ceramic pickups like the MiM which is a huge plus. In addition, the tone wood (body) which is pine on the 50s Classic Vibe is the tone wood (body) that they used on some of the earlier Stratocasters. After I had read several of the reviews I rolled the dice and bought me one from Sweetwater. I got the guitar and was really surprised on how well it was set up right out of the box (Thank you Sweetwater). I didn`t have to do anything to it, action was spot on (low) and guitar was in tune. I looked the guitar over and the finish was flawless. I had a good sit down with the guitar on both a Fender tube and a Peavey SS amp and I have to say, I am very very happy with the purchase that I made. The guitar does have that sweet Fender tone that I was looking for. It`s better than MiM tone that I was getting by a good margin (MiM more for playing modern stuff). If you want to take the guitar just a bit further, you can replace the tremolo bridge with a MiM tremolo as an upgrade and you will have guitar that sounds really really close to an American Fender without the large price tag that comes with it. If your looking for a super good guitar, well made, plays fantastic and oozes Fender tone, you can`t go wrong here. Worth every dime and then some. Don`t let that Squire name stop you, you will be rewarded very nicely. Oh, and a shout out to Joe Perrone from Sweetwater, thank you Joe :)

Modder

I originally bought this as a starting point, inexpensive body with the look I wanted and then strip everything out and replace. Plugged it in the day it arrived and I have not changed a thing. It goes from crystal clear to light blues to SRV to Iron Maiden with a few knob tweaks. Sounds a thousand times better than expected.

Bang for buck and more!

Yep, this Squier Classic Vibe 50s Stratocaster is everything you've heard and more. First and most importantly, I would like to thank Jay Dyer, my Sweetwater Sales Engineer, for being an awesome person to get help and advice from. He walked me through the process to get the guitar I wanted - forever. He is the best. Also, a big thank you to Sweetwater for the company they built to serve the music community.
The guitar: Cool and lovely mojo abounds in this Squier Strat! All the details you would look for in a 50s style Strat are there. It came set up great and played oh so good out of the box. Of course I did a few of my own tweeks to set up - that is a personal thing. Love the neck, feel, playability and sound from the pickups and electronics. And the guitar is beautiful to look at. The price is way lower than the quality of this guitar. Cheers to Fender and the factory that created it. Thanks again, Jay Dyer and Sweetwater.
