A New Standard for Compact Analog Synths

Moog may have put analog synthesis on the map in the 1960s, but the company has never rested on its laurels. The drive to continually advance the state of the art runs deep in Moog’s DNA. Sweetwater is proud to present the Subsequent 25 compact analog synth. The Sub Phatty was a huge hit here, and the Subsequent 25 builds on that legacy, incorporating artist feedback into the evolution of Moog instruments that continue to inspire musicians worldwide. Upgraded with twice the headroom, Moog’s paraphonic Duo Mode, real wood side panels, and much more, the Moog Subsequent 25 sets a new standard in compact analog synthesizers.

A serious performers’ synthesizer

The Subsequent 25 features a silky keybed with enhanced playability, a high-powered headphone amplifier for live monitoring, and analog signal path embellishments that significantly expand your sonic palette. From behemoth basses to lashing leads to posh pads, the Subsequent 25 is a serious performers’ synthesizer with the hands-on control you need to inject serious expression into your live keyboard performances. All in, the Subsequent 25 is an irresistible analog synth value with classic fat and punchy Moog sound, real-time tweakability, and a lovely, custom chassis with wooden side panels, lovingly handcrafted in Asheville, NC.

Enhanced analog signal path for greater sonic versatility

Along with the flexibility of CV (Control Voltage) and audio inputs, the Subsequent 25 also gives you an enhanced analog signal path for a broader palette of sounds. The re-tuned Multidrive circuit lets you crank the gain further for a more extreme range of dirt that can blast through a track more aggressively than the relatively polite growl and grit on tap in the Sub Phatty. The Subsequent 25 mixer also has double the headroom for access to a new range of classic clean tones, and the Ladder Filter gain staging has been massaged to boost harmonic saturation and signal compression for in-your-face bass that will blow holes in walls.

Duo Mode — and what it can do for you

We have received quite a few questions at Sweetwater about Moog’s Duo Mode — an architecture shared by the Subsequent 25. This is basically a two-note paraphonic mode; meaning each of the two oscillators can play a different note while sharing the same audio path. You can hold a bass drone note while playing a lead over it, play in intervals, and create other interesting musical textures and effects you can’t achieve with a monophonic synthesizer.

Designed for hands-on control

Fitted with 25 silky-smooth keys and inviting knobularity, the Subsequent 25 is made to be manipulated. Dedicated controls make it easy to shape your sounds in real time while performing, and the extra-large filter cutoff knob is easy to find with your hands when your eyes are focused elsewhere. Take it from us: you can easily spend hours tweaking knobs and creating new sounds. And you’ll never have to dive into menus or remember which button has the shift function you’re trying to access. With its obvious assets, authentic pedigree, and budget-friendly price tag, the Subsequent 25 is your opportunity to own the Moog you’ve always wanted.

In one word...... great!!

A few months ago I saw a Moog Sub-Phatty on display used at music store. It looked really awesome but I did not really feel comfortable buying it used there as it needed a plug and no documentation or even a box to carry it out!! it of course being used, you inherit any issues you don't know and then find when you take it home. I liked the sound when I researched it But as Moog discontinued it, I had to shrug it off. Then as I saw the Subsequent 25, a successor to the Sub-Phatty..... I fiddled with one at another music store and thought Okay let me go see if my friends at Sweetwater have it in stock....

well it was a great purchase!! It is a fantastic sounding paraphonic analog synthesizer which I am having a blast with.... It is not only sounding rich and with that classic Moog Filter it is one fat sounding instrument not only does it sound good but the actual appearance is 10 out of 10 with it's classic wood sides and sharp looks I have gotten lots of compliments from visitors to my studio I own 7 Moogs, each one a favorite so it's hard to choose a overall favorite but let me say that the Subsequent 25 is definitely a pillar of my studio. It is what I wanted in a Sub-Phatty and much more…..

Producers Workhorse

The Moog Subsequent 25 is my first step into synthesis and I've got to say, this thing is incredible. Everything is user friendly and making nice warm Moog sounds is easier than ever.

This purchase has made music fun again. I'm mostly a guitar player and have been playing for about 12 years so things have gotten a bit slow with my songwriting. That being said when I turn on the Moog, I immediately get inspired and have to record whatever cool sound that comes out of this thing. You just start twisting knobs and pressing buttons and something awesome comes out. It creates a vibe with the flick of a switch.

Definitely the best purchase I've made in a long time. If you're interested in synthesis, this is a really awesome place to start, especially if your setup is DAW based.

Subsequent 25, the mini monster.

This was my first real synth and it was a completely gratifying experience. People may point to the Sub 37, but this really is it's own great piece of equipment and if you're like me and have always wanted a Moog but can't quite afford to pay over a grand, then this really is perfect for you. Such classic Moog sound and analog feel at a reasonable price. It may only have 25 keys, but there are many uses for it and it will fit perfectly into a setup as a bass or lead melodic instrument. Capable of deep bass lines and glorious & sweet singing melodies.

One of my fav synths!

This isn't my first synth or even my first Moog.

(I've owned the og S37, M32, Slim Phatty,

If you do too much reading online, the S25 will seem like something of a runt of the litter. Not quite an S37, and more like a beefed up sub phatty.

Honestly, forget all that and just play the thing! I knew I'd have one when I did.

It does the "Moog thing" in spades and in a compact package with everything you need right in front of you, and no extra clutter. I didn't need the sequencer or arp of the 37. I have those in the daw / other hardware.

I'm on the soundtrack side of things rather than a live player. But I really like to lean on a performative aspect, especially one involving a lot of real time improvisation using synth manipulation and exploration.

I've had synths with insane mod matrixes, and of course I love them. But there's something so inviting about a simple set of useful controls like what the 25 offers.

Every control they decide to give you is a useful avenue for expression. That's the difference with moog. Every one of those knobs feels like it's own mod wheel once you know a bit about synthesis.

The knob ranges are superb! I've had "nicer" monos that just lose the magic when you blow through the useable settings in the first 25% of the knob range. Moog really nails this aspect.

Lastly the sound. This thing can sing, scream and anywhere in between. I quite like the modern moog multidrive thing. It's absolutely a very analog / interactive feeling synth with really easy to explore gain staging. Again this ease of guiding the sound is key for me.

It's a breeze and its constantly suggesting new avenues of exploration for you, becoming a feedback loop of listening and being surprised just as much as you're playing.

Want real Moog sound? Take it from the die-hard analog synth masters here at Sweetwater: buy a Moog. It doesn't matter which one; their synths start at top quality and only go up from there. Sweetwater's relationship with Moog goes way back, and some of us fondly remember the last time Bob himself came to visit. Over the years, we've had the honor of watching Moog grow and evolve, and with synthesis experts like Daniel Fisher on staff, we're still one of the first companies to catch wind of new Moog products - they never fail to impress! Whether it's a classic reissue, a breakthrough new keyboard, or even a cool effects pedal, you can be sure anything you get from Moog will make you happy, and we'd love to tell you all about it.
