Powerful 170-watt Subwoofer with Bypass Control

There's standard bass-frequency monitoring, and then there's the Eris Pro Sub 10 Powered Studio Subwoofer from PreSonus. Touting versatile user setup options and control parameters, this 170-watt monster is a solid solution for small-scenario studio monitoring and hi-fi audio playback. Its 10-inch front-firing, glass-composite woofer supplies more than enough oomph to keep track of your low end. Plus, the Pro Sub 10 is easily optimized to your environment via an input gain control, a polarity invert switch, and a ground-lift switch. Though it's an ideal companion for Eris Pro and Eris Studio series studio monitors, the Eris Pro Sub 10 is an excellent addition to most any monitoring setup, providing clear-cut performance wherever it's required. Order yours from Sweetwater today.

Seamless user controls produce a signature sound

Different studios require different setups. Thankfully, the Eris Pro Sub 10 easily integrates any smaller-scale workspace. RCA, XLR, 1/4-TRS — no matter what connectivity equipment you're working with, the Eris Pro Sub's back panel will provide a solid hookup option. Once you're connected, the subwoofer's included highpass and lowpass filter controls allow you to home in on (or filter out) the frequency spectrum of your mix. Best of all, with the included footswitch, bypassing the subwoofer and filter at a moment's notice during critical monitoring situations is a cinch.

PreSonus Eris Pro Sub 10 10-inch Powered Studio Subwoofer Features:

  • 10-inch powered studio subwoofer with front-firing, bass-reflex acoustic port
  • Natural low-end detail for studio-scale monitoring setups
  • 170-watt Class AB amplification supplies more than enough power to fill the studio with traditional, untampered sound
  • Variable lowpass and highpass filters provide pin-point control of your output
  • Included footswitch for subwoofer, highpass filter, and Sub Out bypass control
  • -30dB to +6dB input gain control, polarity invert switch, and ground-life switch
  • Balanced XLR and 1/4-inch TRS inputs — unbalanced RCA main inputs
  • XLR and 1/4-inch TRS outputs with secondary XLR subwoofer output

Absolutely Stunning! Loud, Deep, and Musical Bass...

This subwoofer is a masterpiece. It offers a lot of features that many other subs at this price point don't offer, and it sounds very musical (in a good way). It's also highly adjustable, and quite small for the sound footprint it outputs.

I originally started my subwoofer journey with the JBL LSR310S (purchased elsewhere) and was immediately disappointed. For some reason, the JBL stole a LOT of headroom out of my system, and even though my audio interface outputs +4dbu, I had to use the JBL sub on the -10dbv input setting to get a reasonable volume from my monitors. To add insult to injury, I couldn't even hear or feel the subwoofer until the gain knob was turned about 3/4 of the way up. Even then, I could feel SOME deep sub-bass, but couldn't really HEAR anything from it. It felt like all this thing was doing was spitting out 30-50hz, and in a very muddy, lumpy way. I felt like I was needing to push the JBL way too hard and wasn't really getting anything out of it. Certainly I wasn't happy with the sound I was hearing (or rather, feeling). I was pretty dejected, but wondered if there was a better option out there.

Cue the PreSonus Eris 10. Immediately upon hooking it up, it was night and day against the JBL. Firstly, it didn't steal any headroom from my monitors. Second, I had the gain at twelve o'clock when I first plugged it in and immediately had to lower it quite a bit to around 3 o'clock - just two notches above the minimum setting. Plenty of headroom left, and I don't need to drive it hard at normal listening levels. And third? THE SOUND! Oh my gosh the sound... all of a sudden I remembered what bass was supposed to feel AND sound like! This sub is very deep, punchy, musical, and can stand out from a soundstage perspective as much or as little as you want. Once I got the gain dialed in and put on some reference tracks... I couldn't stop smiling and just wanted to keep listening to more and more music.

Outside of the sound quality, the features on this sub are second to none at this price point. Notable features include the sub bypass jack and included bypass pedal, a crossover that goes up to 130hz, a HPF for the monitor signal, standby mode, ground lift, and a second subwoofer output. The only thing that would make this subwoofer PERFECT was if it had an adjustable HPF like the Yamaha 8" does (the HPF on the PreSonus is either on or off, and is fixed at 80hz). I guess you can't have it all...

As a side note, the first unit I received from Sweetwater had a malfunction on the subwoofer bypass circuit. When I would enter sub bypass mode via the footswitch, I would lose all signal from my left monitor. After some brief troubleshooting, Sweetwater was quick to send me a replacement unit in advance of me returning the defective unit, and the replacement unit worked perfectly out of the box. I decided not to remove any product rating over this small inconvenience, as the support at Sweetwater was amazing and quick as always, and the subwoofer just sounds too GOOD to take away any stars for something that was quickly and easily resolved. I'd happily go through that whole process again to keep this subwoofer in my setup.

Pro Sub 10

Very nice product; deep bass and booming feel; 4 and 1/2 stars because PreSonus doesn't include any decals with their products.

Hear ALL the music

PreSonus delivers a nice sub at an affordable price. Like most subs, it has the low/high pass filters built in so you can control what goes to your desk near fields. It has both TRS and XLR input and outputs to match whatever desk monitors you have. I especially like the included foot switch which can cut the sub off and returns the full range back to the speakers. All without fiddling around the back of either the sub or the mains. I'm very happy with this piece of gear and heartily recommend it. If you don't have a sub like this in your DAW hardware, believe me, you are missing out.
Music background: Playing for over 40 years

Sweetwater and PreSonus go way back, and that makes a lot of sense. Like Sweetwater, PreSonus is largely staffed by active musicians, songwriters, live sound techs, and engineers, and like Sweetwater, their culture shows up in everything they do. Early on, PreSonus broke ground by offering super-affordable audio interfaces that brought quality recording to home studio engineers everywhere. In the following years, we've been with them as they introduced a powerful, artist-friendly DAW, groundbreaking digital mixers, and more - all products we at Sweetwater use ourselves. One thing that's never changed, even as PreSonus has branched out into new territory, is that they've always done everything possible to provide you with the best value, and we're proud to stand by their products.
