  • Loopback functionality for easy live internet streaming
  • Class A D-PRE microphone preamp
  • Amazing analog circuitry

Loopback functionality for easy live internet streaming

There are certain situations, such as podcasting, where you don't need a ton of inputs but still want great sound and conversion. Steinberg had this in mind when they designed the UR12 with a convenient loopback function specifically for podcasting and other internet streaming activities. Loopback is a common function of most internet streaming programs, when it's active it merges your mic or any other input signals with the output from your DAW or other playback software and then sends the merged signal back to your computer for great live streaming audio.

Class A D-PRE microphone preamp

Steinberg's engineers teamed with Yamaha engineers to design the UR12. They used the acclaimed Class A D-PRE design, featuring advanced, inverted Darlington circuits, for an exceptionally smooth and detailed performance. The Steinberg UR12 features a single microphone preamplifier with XLR input and a TRS line level input, so you can easily track line-level as well as your microphones.

Amazing analog circuitry

True discrete Class A preamp circuitry makes the Steinberg UR12 stand out, particularly among USB audio interfaces at its price point. Wait till you hear the astonishing sound quality the UR12 has to offer! This preamp takes desktop recording to a whole new level. You also get phantom power to run your favorite condenser microphones. And to make sure you have consistent and ample power for phantom powering mics and for recording stability, Steinberg added a five volt DC USB port to the UR12 so that you can connect any standard USB power.

Includes Cubase AI recording software

Get started making music just as soon as you pull your Steinberg UR12 out of the box. You get powerful Cubase AI software included, for up to 32 audio tracks and up to 48 MIDI tracks. Based on the same core technologies as the Steinberg Cubase advanced music production system, Cubase AI offers great tools for composition, recording, editing and mixing. Cubase AI also comes with VST effects, VST3 plug-ins, and tons of drum loops. It's an excellent way to step into the production power of Cubase.

Steinberg UR12 USB 2.0 Audio Interface Features:

A real winner

This interface was just what I needed. Installed first time no problems. A great value at an affordable price.

Great Interface!

Moved from a pretty nice (and expensive) firewire interface due to a recent system upgrade. I really didn't need a lot. An instrument input, and a balanced in, Audio out (rca, coax or optical) to interface with my stereo. As well as a decent headphone out. The sound quality on the UR12 surprised me. I was expecting to have a little loss. Not at all. The controls are simple and easy to use. The headphone amp can drive most any headphones. I use Senheiser HD380's and 580's. The 380's are easy to drive the 580's usually need a dedicated headphone amp. The Ur12 drive the 580's perfectly.Instrument in handles my passive and active basses equally well.

This interface is perfect for me. Very happy with it especially for the price. It a well built unit that does everything it's built to do perfectly.

Excellent interface

This is a great interface for the money. The driver works just fine on OS X. It also sounds very good. The only downside for me is the headphone and speaker volume are on the same gain control.

I also have the more expensive MR816 and the UR12 is fairly close to it on the D/A side. That's impressive.

Easy-to-use once you understand it

It took a while to figure out how to really get it working (mostly because I forgot it had downloadable drive support or something), but once I figured it out and experimented with the volume control on both microphone and guitar inputs, I was having fun.

Definitely enjoying this thing!

Great for Condenser Mics

It was easy to set up the device and install the drivers. Worked great with FL Studio for playback and recording.

The reason why I'm not rating it higher is because of its performance with dynamic mics. I have to max out the gain in order to reach a decent recording level. Even then, I barely hit -18 dB and the noise floor of the preamps isn't the best. It's not severe but it still leaves me with more work to do during post-processing.

But as the title says, it works great for condenser mics! I just feel that there's better options in this price range. If you plan on using only condenser mics and prefer working in Cubase, go for it!
