Roland is the "go to" brand for e-drums, this is the best that I have played so far.

After trying out another brand's best set (with an extra tom and an extra cymbal pad, you know which one I am talking about) which had a factory "overlooked symptom", I traded it for this wonderful set.
I have been playing drums for 20 years and I used to have a Yamaha DTXpress IV set with rubber pads which, don't get me wrong, was quite good, but after I discovered the mesh kits which will give you an extremely realistic feel, ESPECIALLY on the kick drum which is sorely needed to do flams or very quick double notes, I ordered this set about 2 years ago and have not looked back.
I must give a lot of kudos to the Sweetwater staff for being so professional!
The sound on these is excellent-which include most of your drumming/percussion needs and drumkit "similes" and the editing functions are very helpful.
The Pros are the quality, sturdiness and sounds-you can also count the great look.
If you want to find cons, you will always find them; I understand that you have to buy a snare and hi-hat stand (the only one I wish it had come with) and a kick drum pedal but this is basically a good thing because you get to choose which ones you want and they are not that expensive; I got myself a Gibraltar double kick drum pedal and a Tama Hi-Hat stand for a very reasonable price, and I am a carbon fiber Ahead drumstick fan because they are heavy enough to whack the set without the danger of them chipping or breaking, and , of course, the Sweetwater folks will make it "easier" for you when purchasing a bundle like this!
My "main" gripe is the selection wheel on the module which is not very precise but that is just a minor gripe.
For the price , this is the best choice...and, of course, you get the blessing of most e-drums; you barely make any noise.
I always wondered why all the big names played Roland e-drums, well, I know why now!

Perfect kit for me!!

Love this kit so much… super responsive, sturdy, good sounds, reliable, and most of all super sick looking. Totally recommend. If you want a more professional module and lower quality pads (other than the snare) you can get the TD27KV2, but for $ cheaper, I took this and have 0 regrets. Upgraded from a badly built Alesis surge mesh.

Good Drum Set. Wish it came complete.

Not a fan that the kick pedal, snare stand and High Hat stand don't come with these. (the listing does say this however)

I understand that most drummers already have these pieces, but when a church orders a set for their band, they want to have a complete setup ready out of the box. A suggestion I would make is to maybe have a "package" which include these pieces for simplicity.

Other than that though, I love the look and the triggers are so responsive and the sound with the TD-17 is just amazing. Even the most basic drummer can sound good.

As a sound guy, I love having an electric set over accoustic as I can control exactly how loud the drums are compared to the rest of the band without having to hide the entire drum set in a full enclosure. This allows the drummer to worship with the rest of the church instead of being "in the dog house".

I highly recommend this set. You won't go wrong ording this one!

Great product! Flawed Hi Hat controller...

THE GOOD: I will give credit where it's due. This drum kit is a magnificent practice tool, especially for low volume playing. It's at least as quiet as a kit outfitted with silent stroke drum heads but with an added bonus of being able to hear the drum sounds through headphones. I can jam on this kit late at night and not disturb others, unless maybe they are trying to sleep in the next room over. The Bluetooth in feature allows me to stream music from my phone and into the module, meaning I can play along to tracks without blowing out my ear drums or fighting with acoustic drum volume levels. It registers every note played. It registers dynamics from soft to loud. I can really dig in on these drums without fear of breaking anything. I play it just as hard as my acoustic kit, no problems whatsoever. So far, there's no marks on any of the mesh heads. I found the tension to be perfect right out of the box. The hardware is REALLY solid. The larger shell on the bass drum locks in perfectly with the spurs and DOES NOT SLIDE! Also, double bass players rejoice. This bass drum can accommodate double pedals. You do have to rotate the batter side bass head to get the beaters to line up and hit on "center", but it's a minor annoyance and once it's done, it's done.

THE BAD: Okay, so this hi hat controller is pretty far from perfect. I had seen it mentioned in a few online reviews but generally dismissed it as a calibration issue. It isn't. The VH-10 is inherently flawed in my opinion and it really seems like Roland knows about it but has so far been dismissive. In their response to me they tried to put the onus on the hi hat stand. "We've also had customers inform us that different Hihat stands can affect the VH-10's performance based on the HH stand's design, adjustments(if available), and spring tension, and found that they do vary regarding reaction speed and how they respond to the weight of the VH-10." In addition, they also tried to blame it on my playing. "Your playing technique as well as the reaction speed of the pedal on your Hihat stand can affect how the Hihat sounds are triggered. The pedal's position will always represent the open, half open, or closed sound produced at the very moment that you hit the pad. Rushing the hit in relation to the pedal position may produce unexpected results. From a playing standpoint, this timing can take some getting used to on the V-Drums compared to an acoustic Hihat."

Look, I've been playing for over 20 years. I know how to open and close my hi hat. The problem isn't that it takes getting used to, it's that it's inconsistent. I've calibrated it multiple times. It often doesn't hold the calibration and drifts a bit. Sometimes it works, sometimes I get the wrong sound for what I'm trying to play. If it's so picky about the hardware being used, then this kit should come with a hi hat stand. For $, that's not too much to ask. I've seen the reviews online, I've researched in forums. It's not just me. I also had to adjust the rim gain on the hi hat because playing on the edge of the cymbal with the shoulder of my stick was somehow quieter than hitting the hi hat towards the middle with the tip. I was able to adjust it out by navigating deeper into the settings, but still an annoyance. That just isn't how acoustic hi hats respond.

Additionally, the preloaded drums on this kit aren't that great. The first one is fine, the rest are kind of meh. I doubt this is much of a surprise. Most of the reviews I've seen tell you you'll probably want to load in a custom kit. But I was pretty surprised how unusable a lot of them are. I think you could assemble a good sound by picking and choosing from what's there, but it takes work and the learning curve is a little steep if you aren't really computer savvy. Personally I've just been too lazy to attempt it.

CONCLUSION: Buy this kit if you feel like a standard kick drum tower isn't to your liking and you need rock solid hardware and triggers. These drums feel great to play on, and largely are. Just be aware of the potential hi hat issues if you play a lot of fast opening hi hat rhythms. Personally, I play mostly metal and blast beats. These drums will hold up against heavy hitters and provide accurate responses for most players (except for the above noted hi hat issues).

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland. Many of the electronic musicians here at Sweetwater cut our teeth on TR Rhythm machines and fondly remember programming our first TB-303s. We owe a good part of our careers to this amazing and innovative company. It's been fun to watch and grow right alongside Roland, as they've introduced wave after wave of revolutionary keyboards, digital pianos, and more. For example, Roland's V-Drum Kits continuously redefine the possibilities of electronic drums, beginning with SuperNATURAL technology to the latest Prismatic Sound Modeling. We're huge fans, and we'd love to tell you all about them. Whether you want a pocket-sized synth or a cutting-edge video mixer, if Roland makes it, then Sweetwater is 100% behind it.
