Authentic Tube Tone with High-performance DSP

The Vox VT40X modeling guitar combo amplifier employs sophisticated digital technology, along with a unique analog circuit, to bring you authentic tube power amp performance. Vox analyzed actual amp components and circuits when they designed the VT40X, so each of its 11 amplifier models sounds incredibly realistic. A multi-stage Valvetronix tube preamp incorporates true tube circuitry, so you feel the subtle nuances that you'd expect from a tube guitar amp. A tightly sealed cabinet and expertly designed bass-reflex structure, along with 13 classic stompbox effects, ensure that the Vox VT40X modeling guitar combo amplifier delivers an unbelievably powerful tone that far exceeds its modest size.

  • Tone Room editor/librarian software for customizing amps and effects
Hybrid analog/digital technology yields stunning tone

When Vox was designing the VT40X, they didn't just model the sound of guitar amplifiers, they employed VET (Virtual Elements Technology) to analyze each amp down to the component level. The result is a true-to-life reproduction of each model's characteristics. A Valvetronix preamp incorporates a multi-stage tube amplification circuit to provide you with the distinctive distortion, response, and tonal characteristics of a classic tube amplifier. The VT40X's power amp stage combines a unique analog circuit with a high-performance digital power amp to duplicate the tonal differences between Class A and AB, the effect of bias values on tone, and the changes in dynamic response of tubes.

High-performance DSP delivers next-level sound quality

Highly sophisticated DSP imbues the Vox VT40X with an enormous level of processing power. You'll hear the difference in the VT40X's sampling rate and sound of each of its 11 realistic amp models and in the quality of its 13 onboard effects.

Tone Room editor/librarian software for customizing amps and effects

The Vox VT40X's included Tone Room editor/librarian software puts an enormous amount of customizing power at your fingertips. You can tweak parameters to such a degree that it's almost like building your own instrument. When using Tone Room in conjunction with the VT40X, you gain access to a broad range of 20 realistic models of some of the most sought-after amplifiers around. Sixty preset programs, some modeled after the signature sounds of famous guitarists, unlock the full potential of the VT40X. Nearly everything is editable and storable, so once you craft the perfect tone, you can easily recall it later.

Vox VT40X Modeling Guitar Combo Amplifier Features:
  • VET (Virtual Elements Technology) delivers stunning sound quality

Mind blown

I would highly recommend it is surprising loud for 40 watts !. Has everything you want in compact amp. Lightweight portable with ease. Its that vintage JCM 800tone which I love . Boutique amps or nice and crisp clear sound.

Awesome amp!!

This thing is bad to the bone!! Having a bit of trouble using the ToneLab Sound Library though. Hopefully I'll get it figured out soon. Very nice and warm. I should have gotten the 100 watt version.
The folks at Sweetwater are great!! They always check in with you about a week after receiving your product to make sure you like it.

VT40X with Legend 1058 Speaker

I play jazz, mostly on a Heritage 575 archtop. I have a TomKat amp which was starting to give me trouble and they don't make them anymore. I bought the VT40X as a backup. It was the only hybrid amp with a 12A7X preamp, 10" speaker and DSP the same as the TomKat (but better because of its modeling capability). The VOX40X is a great amp and now the Tomkat is my backup amp. I exclusively model the 22w Deluxe Reverb clean channel, which is widely used for jazz, in addition to rock and county. I am achieving getting the tone I have been seeking rather than spending $ for the Fender.

The stock speaker is a nonstandard 5 ohms, and not up to par. I upgraded it with a Legend 1058, after doing a fare amount of research about which speaker to use. The cabinet's base reflex design is probably adequate for the stock speaker, but it constrained the Legend 1058. Eventually, after taking a deep breath, I core drilled four 1.5" diameter holes across the back of the cabinet and wow it made a huge difference - warm unconstrained lows. The Legend 1058 is used to being in open backed cabinet and now it can breath!

The VT40X acheives 40 watts of power because VOX uses a 5 ohm speaker which allows more current through the coil. ( Watts = Amps squared times the resistance.) The Legend 1058 is a conventional 8 ohm speaker, which reduces the current to 5/8 of what it was with the 5 ohm speaker, but when combined with the higher resistance of the 8 ohm speaker, results in 25 watts of output. I am OK with that since the Fender DR is 22 watts and both are plenty loud enough.
Music background: I have played guitar for 60 years; mostly for my own enjoyment now-a-days. . today. Seeking samll gigs.

Awesome Amp

Loving this amp. So many options and sounds. Sounds amazing. I have yet to realize the full potential = but then again - that's most of the fun.
