Outstanding Design, Details, and Sound in a Robust Dreadnought

Get the classic, full-bodied tone of a dreadnought with the Guild D-140CE. This robust acoustic-electric guitar features a solid spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides for full, rich acoustic tone. The rosewood fingerboard offers outstanding response and playability that's ideal for flatpicking and fingerpicking alike. Strum the D-140CE with big, open first-position chords and hear the sustain and resonance that make the Westerly series acoustic guitars a favorite among guitarists here at Sweetwater. The D-140CE also features a Guild/Fishman GT1 with Sonicore pickup for stellar amplified acoustic tone and a deep cutaway for effortless access higher up the neck for lead runs and varied chord voicings.

A legendary series

The Westerly series of acoustic guitars taps into Guild's second chapter after relocating the company’s design and build headquarters from New Jersey to a Rhode Island furniture factory. This larger, improved space afforded a new direction and dedication to improving their already excellent craftsmanship. And the D-140CE is part of that tradition as it reflects impeccable build details and fine appointments — all with a focus on improved tone and durability. A genuine rosewood bridge and real bone nut and saddle enhance tone and resonance on the D-140CE. In addition, scalloped spruce X-bracing provides additional resonance and sustain enhancement as well as ensuring long-term durability.

Awesome amplified tone

The Guild/Fishman GT1 with Sonicore pickup in the D-140CE is a wonderfully designed system that naturally and fully translates the acoustic tone of this fine instrument. The sound is full and dynamic onstage, and it pairs well with a microphone for recording parts at home or in the studio. Volume and tone controls are mounted directly in the soundhole for easy access and a look that won't detract from your guitar's natural beauty.

Guild D140CE

In 1972 right after I got out of the Navy I bought myself a gift. A brand new Guild D40. It was my #1 acoustic until I recently gifted it to my grand daughter. To replace it I bought this D140CE from Sweetwater and I'm as happy as I ever was.

Pure

Guitar sounds angelic, if you're thinking of purchasing it's a must buy.

Exceptional tone and a great quality for the price

This guitar sounds amazing for the price range it's in! Honestly, probably still sounds amazing compared to guitars that are twice the price of this one. I've got a Martin D13e and I'd have to say the Martin does have some deep lows, but is lacking in the high frequency arena compared to the Guild. This Guild has good lows, mids, and highs, and cost less than my Martin did. Great sounding guitar and easy on the eyes too. If you're thinking about pulling the trigger on this one, don't hesitate.

Unbelievable Tone!

The Guild D-140CE is amazing! Super huge thanks to my sales engineer, Justin Wofford for helping to guide me towards this guitar! He and the Sweetwater team were awesome throughout this process! The tone is just perfect! This guitar has a well-balanced sound with a crystal clear low-end, nice, robust mids, and a warm high-end that doesn't sound tinny or thin. It plays like something almost twice as expensive! It has a nice bit of punchiness to it, which is great for flatpicking, soloing, and fingerpicking (my preferred playing style). It also sounds incredible when strummed- a very deep, rich, resonant sound. It's lightweight but projects really nicely and has the right amount of volume! The action is great and it's easy to move around the fretboard!

It looks fantastic too! Classic dreadnought with a beautiful antique burst finish, nice binding, and a cool headstock. The vintage tuners are a wonderful touch as well! The electronics are also great! The natural reverb really shines on the Guild/Fishman GT1, which has easy-to-use tone and volume knobs tucked in the edge of the soundhole.

It's also important to mention that the dynamic aspect of this guitar is phenomenal! It's so transparent to the way you're playing. You don't have to play too hard or too soft to try and overcompensate for changes in dynamic or volume, which is great for live performances and for better takes in the studio!

This guitar has such a great tone and classic looks! It's got a real pawn shop chic appeal to it, with an incredibly well-rounded sound! It's a really focused and sonically-driven acoustic! It's perfect if you love that deeply warm 60s and 70s folk/singer-songwriter guitar tone. For the materials, sound quality, look, and playability, I don't know that you'll find much else in this price range that can match this Guild!

It's The Best - Setup Required

I took a chance and purchased this guitar from Sweetwater sight unseen, having never played a Guild before. The guitar arrived double packaged in perfect condition, but needing a setup badly. The fret bars were terribly not even, and the intonation was off on the E, A, and D strings. The action was too high on the 1st - 5th fret. And too low above the 5th fret. After I sanded the fret bars to level, the Intonation adjusted itself to perfect. The action a dream. This guitar offers the finest tone I have ever heard in my life. It beats Gibson and Martin, or anything I have ever played. I just want everyone to know - get a setup and you will be extremely pleased with this guitar. Those who do not are disappointed. The price for a solid mahogany guitar like this from any other brand is 300% more. You will not be as happy paying more because this guitar delivers the power for much less. Wait until you hear the harmonics. It rings like no other guitar can. WOW!
