Try D’Addario’s Toughest Strings

D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Guitar Strings represent one of the most exciting developments in string technology in recent years. Tough as nails, these strings feature an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire and a reformulated nickel plating on the wrap wire. Of course, NYXL strings are still made with the dedication to quality and craftsmanship that players have come to expect from D’Addario. But what does all of that do for you, the player? First, the strings are more flexible, making them a much better alternative for players who abuse the whammy bar. They’re also more stable — case in point, D'Addario reports these strings flaunt a 131% greater tuning stability. Suffice it to say: with these strings on your guitar, you’re free to play without worrying that a broken string will derail your session..

The NYXL Difference

So, what really makes NYXLs so much different than standard D’Addario strings? First, they’re built with an exclusive high-carbon steel core wire for greater durability and a higher tolerance for alternate tunings. The other difference found on NYXL strings is the reformulated nickel-plated wrap wire, which delivers a subtle boost in output between 1kHz and 3.5kHz. With NYXL strings, you get a modernized sound and ferocious durability without sacrificing the easy playability you know and love.

Which string gauge is right for me?

  • Extra Super Light: Super easy to play. Easy to bend. Great for beginners.
  • Super Light: Easy on the fingers. Slightly more volume and projection.
  • Regular Light: Most popular. Ideal balance of playability and versatile tone.
  • Medium: A popular fusion of heftier plain steels and wound strings.
  • Heavy: Hardest to bend. Maximum volume. Often used for drop/altered tunings.

The right tone for everyone

D’Addario believes that every acoustic guitar player should have a set of strings that match their sonic needs. That’s why they build strings with a range of construction methods and materials. Whether you go with the brightest 80/20 Bronze strings, the mellowest Silk & Steels, or anywhere in between, D’Addario has the perfect sound for everyone. Want to learn more? D’Addario: innovative strings since 1680

When you go with D’Addario, you receive far more than a great set of strings. You’re benefiting from three centuries of string-making experience. The D’Addario family tradition began in 1680 in the tiny town of Salle, Italy, where they made assorted instrument strings for over 200 years before relocating to New York in 1905. Since then, the D’Addario family has become a leader in string innovation. They designed the modern winding machine, introduced ultra-reliable hexagonal core wires, and pioneered the colored-coded ball end movement. More than 300 years since the family started making strings, D’Addario continues to set a global standard for quality and reliability. And every day, more than 500,000 strings emerge from their USA-based workshops.

D’Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings Features:

  • Advanced nickel-wound guitar strings with outstanding durability
  • Exclusive New York-made high-carbon steel core delivers unrivaled strength and elasticity
  • Wound strings flaunt an improved frequency response in the 1–3.5kHz range
  • Hexagonal steel core wire provides extra stability, greater reliability, and improved intonation
  • Improved tuning stability means you spend less time tuning and more time playing

  • Color-coded ball ends make it easy to change and replace strings

My go-to for years now

Are used to use primarily elixir strings and I use those and the NYXL. They last a long time and sound really good. I've been avidly playing guitar for about 18 years.
Music background: Long time me love Ukulele

great strings for low tunings

i tuned to a# and it works great, i love them, and they sound great acoustically, 10/10
Music background: ok guitar player

They're all I'll use.

I wanted something that would play more like acoustic strings on my hollow body. These are perfect for that. The XT's are better on my strats, but these are the only thing I will ever put on my hollow body. They don't sacrifice the metallic sound of the string and they hold up for an incredibly long time. Anyone who say's otherwise got a bad batch, or they installed the strings incorrectly.

Very happy

I've been using these for about two years on all my guitars. All are tuned to D Standard. I play hard and do mostly strumming and chugging rhythm work. Very little lead stuff. I am very pleased with these and continue to purchase them when I need strings. I'm coming from the Ernie Ball Not Even Slinky's.
Music background: Playing for ~25 years. Multiple bands, live settings and recording

Love this gauge for Drop D

This gauge is perfect for keeping fat tones when you drop the bottom E to a D. Raise your action just a touch and you can have some seriously huge tones with this gauge. Love em. The .52 keeps the low string tension high even when you down tune a bit. Could probably get away with drop C or D standard. Plus these aren't as coarse as the EB Cobalts. They are good too, but not like these.
