Overview

The Elgato Wave:1 is a mic developed in conjunction with Austrian Mic company Lewitt. It was designed for streaming, voice overs, podcasts and singing.

The broad frequency response of 70 – 20000 Hz also fits well with recording instruments like acoustic guitars and some light percussion.

Although it's marketed as a streaming mic, the tech behind the condenser capsule and circuitry being designed by Lewitt helps it go beyond that purpose.

The 24 bit, 48kHz resolution is kind of behind the times (The Wave:3 goes up to 96kHz) but not many people record higher than this anyway.

One thing to watch out for is that the included mixer software re-routs your audio around and may affect some of your existing audio settings. Fortunately, the mic itself is plug and play; the software is optional and is mostly used for streaming, but I've seen some creative uses for it such as using it to sample audio.

The Elgato Wave:1 USB is a great sounding microphone with a lot of features to go beyond just recording. If you're a musician and content creator or if you perform live on stream, it's a great choice.
