GHS M3050 Stainless Steel Precision Flatwound Electric Bass Guitar Strings

GHS was founded in 1964 in Battle Creek, Michigan by Robert McFee.

The brand is actually pretty popular, including endorsees like: Jack White, Carlos Santana, Tom Morello, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Flea of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Hank Williams Jr. The name of the company actually comes from the surnames of the founders: Gould, Holcomb, and Solko.

Specifications:

  • Gauge: Medium (.045 to .105)
  • Material: Stainless Steel
  • Coated: No

This set is interesting because it uses GHS’s cross-winding process. The cross-winding used by GHS gives their strings a very percussive attack, which is great for “thumpy”, quick bass lines. Because these strings are flatwounds, they also have a very dark tone. While this isn’t always ideal, there are a lot of genres and songs that benefit from the warmer tone of flatwounds (with great examples being jazz, country, and R&B).
